Well,
This is not a post I wanted to make, but here it is.
Recently, there was an email sent out to all of the managers of the FCBA about the future of the SPA universe on the FCBA. And despite the response seemingly in favor of keeping SPA how it is, I've been informed by Lookout that I would have to make fundamental changes to keep SPA on the FCBA boards. This would include asking permission from managers to use "their" fighters in my story and posting around the FCBA schedule. After two years of posting SPA content on this board, I informed Lookout that I would not change how I ran SPA. And there are reasons for this.
First, when SPA was first negotiated to be moved to this board the characters were pre-existing. Meaning they were coming from another site over to here. It makes no sense for me to have moved over here without the security of being able to use the characters that already were used on another site.
Second, if a character's celebrity depiction were to change FCBA managers that would mean communication with a completely different person. For instance, say Alexandra Daddario went from Foxfire to a new stable and that manager refused to "allow" her to participate in stories as Agent Blue. Well now all of a sudden I'm out a major character who I have several storylines planned for. Now take that and apply it to any character in SPA at any time with any manager. It's a workaround that slows down the entire process potentially to a halt.
Third, I made it very clear to Lookout that my posting SPA content would be at my own leisure. It's a hobby for me and so I want to work on this project when I want to work on it. So having to work around the FCBA schedule makes the hobby less enjoyable. So why would I stay here?
Finally, when I brought SPA over here I had already made a major concession where I would keep the stories PG-13. This was NOT the original intent of SPA, but I made the concession so that the stories had a home. So for two years I've posted stories holding back how SPA was truly supposed to be told in order to comply to the rules of the FCBA.
So... the question is now, where does that leave SPA? Well, I don't have an answer for you. Of course the stories will no longer be posted here on the FCBA boards. Maybe they'll move elsewhere. Or maybe the project is done. I'll be honest, the process of moving everything to another board or site is a daunting one. I've already moved SPA's home once and saw the readership nosedive. Moving again could really kill it. And despite what Lookout has claimed to help "promote" the move, I have my doubts that will help much at all. So for now I'm going to say that SPA has ended. Maybe it will find life somewhere else, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Thank you to all of the readers who showed their support and appreciated the stories of SPA. It meant the world to me.
