Diamond Boxing Tournament 23 announcement
We can announce that in 2023 we will hold the third ever Diamond Boxing Tournament. The first two tournaments saw Camille Kostek and the current FCBA welterweight champion Robyn Lawley claim the title. Next year we feel might be the toughest to call who will win the tiara and trophy. So I am proud to announce the following eight fighters will be involved in next year's event.
Megan Thee Stallion: Age 27, Height: 5'10, record: 4-5 (4KOs)
Megan will be hoping to do slightly better then her stablemates Danielle Herrington (who finished fifth) and Emma Corrin (fourh was where she ended up after being in contention to win it all). Megan has had a rough patch over the last year but has the power to dismantle any opponent who faces her.
Amy Willerton: Age: 30, Height: 5'9, Record: 13-11 (13KOs)
Amy has made the step up this year and really started to put wins together. Starting in the BBU, she has fought fighters from around the world. With the League of Mighty Women stable firmly behind her, Amy has to be seen as a dark horse to win it all if her form is anything to go by.
Hailey Clauson: Age: 27, Height: 5'11, Record: 30-12 (30KOs), titles won: current BBU JMDD champion
Maybe the early betting favourite. Hailey is dominating the JMDD world. With a win over Hannah Ferguson recently. Hailey has started to really come into her own as an elite contender after years of being seen as potential. Of course the question now becomes can she take her JMD form into the more traditional ranks?
Daphne Groenevald: Age: 27, Height: 5'11, Record: Debut
The wildcard of the event. This will be her debut come January in this event. The Dutch beauty has been a fixture on front of magazines and on the catwalk for more then a decade. She will be the big mystery of the event, could she surprise them all to come from nowhere to win it or will she get a firm taste of what makes the FCBA so difficult to break into.
Elizabeth Turner: Age: 30, Height: 5'10, Record: 4-6 (4KOs)
Elizabeth has tried her hand at several different types of fighting since coming to the FCBA; starting with beach wrestling, doing JMDD fights and of course boxing under traditional rules. This will be a great chance for her to break into that elite bracket of fighter as she just sits on the outside.
Ireland Baldwin: Age: 27, Height: 6'2, Record: 3-4 (3KOs)
The daughter of Kim Bassinger and the cousin of Hailey Baldwin (Bieber) will be hoping to make some headlines of her own. She has a little tournament experience as she is a New Blood Tournament finalist. This will be her best chance to prove she isn't just a beautiful tall blonde. That she also has the power and skills to be a title contender.
Iskra Lawrence: Age: 32, Height: 5'9, Record: 7-2 (7KOs)
Iskra might be one of the most underrated fighters in the division right now. After starting at a rapid pace, things have slowed down for her due to losing her stable. This will be a great shop window for her to prove she deserves back. She also might have the strength and toughness to find her way to the title.
Raffaella Modugno: Age: 34, Height: 5'11 ½, Record: 6-7 (6KOs)
She is the first Italian fighter to take part in a Diamond Boxing Tournament. While she is the oldest in this year's field. She has great physical attributes and has proven her toughness over her career. Will she do her country proud and win the event?
The first round of fights will take place on January's FNL Proving Ground card. We will announce the first round of fights along with the rest of that card soon. So keep your eyes out for that announcement.
As with last year we will try to head to each fighters home locations or countries at least. So we be going to America, England, Italy and Holland next year. Maybe someday we will go to seven countries but for now it will be four.
Remember this is all about who has the most wins by the end of the tournament. If fighters have a shared record then we go to head to head records. Followed by knockouts if it comes to it as they fight over seven rounds of round robin action.
Thank you to all the managers who have agreed to their fighters to take part. To Bonzo, Caspian, Lookout and Vassago for helping to create the shortlist that made up the names of fighters in the tournament. If anyone has a fighter they wish was part of the tournament that isn't, blame me for that. I hope that everyone enjoys the next tournament. It will be here before we know it.
