Cheryl Cole vs Jenna Ortega
(Lioness Club vs Global Boxing Syndicate)
(48-16, 48 KO vs 2-0, 2 KO)
Results: Lookout!; Story: Vassago
BEFORE: It seems like Cheryl Cole has shifted her career goals into challenging every Latina youngster that has entered the FCBA universe in the last couple of years. The results are mixed but many fans believe the Geordie singer will never get another title shot following her lone opportunity in 2017 and she might as well focus on making these newcomers' life miserable if they can't beat a wiley veteran like her. Let's make no mistake, Chezza is here to punish the hyped prospects with a capital P! Even more curious is the fact that Lioness' owner Mr. V himself thinks Jenna Ortega is a future star of the division and might shoot up the rankings within the next few months. She kicked off her career by taking down Janel Parrish and Abigail Breslin but faces her toughest test yet tonight. Can she pass it?
Cheryl Cole wears a black bikini top, leopard print thong & red gloves. Long dark brown hair tied in a half-up ponytail. Jenna Ortega wears a red crop top, matching hip-huggers & white gloves. Long black hair tied in a curled ponytail with bangs. The fight is scheduled for ten rounds in the flyweight division.
Round 1:
Cheryl jumps into her trademark aggressive slugging and it's anyone's guess if Jenna can withstand the early onslaught. She blocks off most of the singer's efforts but still soaks up several hard licks and wobbles to the side when the Geordie veteran connects with her temples. The phone booth stance is exactly what Chezza wants and she cashes in with several body shots to soften the youngster up before thumping her in the chest as well. Jenna uses those 20-year old legs to spin out of the trap but cuts a defensive figure thereafter with Cole taunting her in extremely arrogant fashion. That's a bold strategy against the hyped kid and Jenna takes the bait late and clobbers a gut-checking response before a quick uppercut drops Cheryl into spasms but that's probably not enough to steal the round on points.
Round 2:
More of the same in the second, Cheryl works the early slugging action but can't quite punish the Latina with her efforts and gets picked off over the top down the stretch when Ortega settles down to find her range. GBS coach Monica Bellucci makes sure the youngster doesn't blow her fuse too early, always a risk when facing Cole in the ring and the methodical boxing does the trick as she stuffs the Geordie singer with a heavy dose of body shots in the second minute. Jenna owns the superior mobility to she prevents Cheryl from taking the escape road and pummels her to the ropes where she keeps gashing those toned abs and the power supply must be above average since Chezza slumps into loud spasms unable to even clinch the Mexican-American come the bell.
Round 3:
Jenna finds her groove and dominates the action from the opening bell, she tackles Cheryl to the body to find easy success before moving up to smack the veteran on the chin. Cole tries to follow through with the familiar "in you face" style but she simply look slooooow compared to the Coachella Valley kid. Inferior size and reach? Doesn't matter for Ortega who piles on the heat to punish the veteran in emphatic fashion and Cheryl simply has to bail out of the exchange before it gets really ugly. Jenna stays in the slugging lane though and keeps swinging upstairs to connect with more head shots, Cheryl fires back but only grazes the flesh and cuts a visibly frustrated figure when Jenna still thumps her back to the ropes in the final minute. She jumps on the slugging train but Jenna cuts her up below the left eye in the process. Add a visible swelling around the lips and Chezza is really up against it here.
Round 4:
When in doubt go for broke... Cole seeks a haymaker solution to stop this Ortega run but she only lands some single punches up the middle and struggle to shake the kid off her plan. Jenna is quick enough to duck underneath most of the Geordie heat and fires back to punish the older brunette's body in swift response. Cheryl begins to lose her patience thereafter and it almost seems like it's Ortega who plays with the veteran trying to lure her into some ill-advised attack. Cole is always good for a swarming scrap but she gets nothing significant on target here and drops into more counter-punching misery come the final minute. Jenna clobbers her to the ropes and bangs away in fury leaving visible marks on the singer's midriff. Ugh! Cheryl is wounded both high & low at the bell and needs immediate advice from coach Eva Mendes alas it might be too late for that already.
Round 5:
Jenna goes for the ultimate highlight and blows Cheryl up with some vicious hooks before driving a left hook into her navel. She shoves the singer back and then swings with a left hook that catches the ailing veteran on the ear. Ugh! Cole slumps forward with a whimper and takes a quick uppercut double on the chin that LAYS HER OUT on the spot!!! The proud Geordie tries to get up but vertigo takes over and keeps her glued to the boards during an otherwise quick count. What a night for the Coachella kid! KO5 Jenna Ortega in one-sided fashion!!!
AFTER: It seems like Cheryl's plan to fight these young Latinas has run its course after a couple of years as she got completely overwhelmed by the latest GBS signing. There's a lot of noise surrounding Ortega's rise into FCBA competition and she's doing it the right way so far taking three wins on the bounce - all by KO before half-distance. She tries to keep it calm in the post-fight interview but winks back to her fans in the stands and there are a lot of them for this PPV indeed. It might be too late for Jenna to win Flyweight Rookie of the Year but she's gonna be a force in the division for years to come if she keeps this performance going!
Official Result: Jenna Ortega def. Cheryl Cole KO5.
