Round 1:
The prohibitive favorite to win the inaugural Jaguar Tournament, Jennifer Garner looked every bit the part in the first. Bridget Regan continued to impress as she held serve with a crisp and fiery Garner, but at times she looked completely overwhelmed. Garner didn’t possess limitless or intimidating measurables, but her movement and horsepower was impeccable. A simple back-foot uppercut or fadeaway cross still managed to stagger Regan as though every bit of the Houston native’s voltage was behind it. It wasn’t a dominating round for Garner, but it was enough to convey a message. 10-9 Garner.
Round 2:
While Garner hadn’t looked completely unbeatable, even being knocked down by Missy Peregrym and Jennifer Lopez during Pools, it was still somewhat shocking to see Regan take such command of the fight in the second. A perfectly-timed foray past a lethargic right cross from Garner was all the opening she needed; able to slip through and bury a flaming uppercut into Jen’s navel. Caught completely off-guard, Garner melted into Regan, finally vulnerable for the first time as Bridget pumped a pair of blind, stumpy lefts into Garner’s gum-shield before grabbing her chin and yanking her back upright. Garner’s loose, frizzled locks swung through the air as she was straightened back up, wobbling forward into a loud left hand from Regan. Garner grunted and pinwheeled backwards, reeling as Bridget chased her down and bludgeoned her torso with leather, jamming discombobulated alternating crosses into her midsection until Garner turned tail once again. Regan’s chase wasn’t as coordinated an effort as it needed to be, but Garner was visibly damaged, curling up behind her forearms as Bridget wailed away until stopped by the bell. A stunning show from Regan, and she takes the round 10-8.
Round 3:
The third saw Regan try to return to the well, but Garner was having none of it. Too seasoned to allow Regan to stack momentum with the same old tricks, Garner pawed away another attempted navel shot and buried a ‘not so fast’ right hand into Regan’s belly. Trying to mimic Regan’s blueprint, Garner followed her right, only to walk into a hopeful sweeping left cross that connected with her jaw. Garner’s knees wobbled once again, but she steadied, having done enough damage prior to keep Regan from coming in after her hit. With Jen backing off and appearing vulnerable, she spent the last half of the round on her heels with Bridget dictating. Regan did an excellent job of not getting tagged without a parting shot, winning a couple of their careful trades with a jazzy left-right combination to the sternum that Jen couldn’t solve. Regan takes it narrowly, 10-9.
Round 4:
With a pair of puzzling round losses behind her, Garner finally flashed that championship pedigree, illustrating why she’s a ten-time Champion and Hall-of-Famer. Ramping up her movement to round-one crispness, Garner appeared untouchable, darting forward to cuff the younger brunette with some heart-pounding power punches that made Regan very wary of challenging. Garner continued to probe, slinging violent overhands toward Regan’s skull and following with a jaw-rattling uppercut left each time. Despite landing very few outside of one overhand that clanked off Bridget’s shoulder, Garner’s punching prowess was extremely intimidating, forcing Regan to shell-up and avoid silly challenges. In a round with very few punches actually landed, Garner takes it, but more so due to Regan’s passivity. 10-9 Garner.
Round 5:
After a much-needed rally in the fourth, Jen seemed intent on snuffing out any lingering belief that might be growing in Regan. The stern-faced brunette confidently challenged Regan at the dead center of the ring, defiantly inviting and eating a brutal left cross to her flexing abdomen before ripping a retaliatory shot that mirrored Regan’s. While Jennifer wore Bridget’s punch with little more than a wince, Regan was crumpled. The Cali native’s belly rippled as Jen stuffed her guts with a nauseating tummy punch, Regan’s feet shuffling as she scrunched at the hip and slunk away from the exchange licking her wounds. Garner was too good not to chase, nipping at Regan’s heels as she furiously exhaled and begged for a gulp of oxygen to fill her lungs. Before Regan could posture back up, Garner spiked a merciless right hand into the side of her skull, flooring Bridget with the might overhand.
To her credit, Regan miraculously managed to wobble back to her feet, grunting with each monumental effort to put one foot in front of the other and stand. As the official waved them back together, Regan couldn’t even formulate a punch of her own before Garner hissed through another rising left-left that snapped against her sternum, wilting against the ropes and fumbling to hang on for dear life. The official dove in for a stoppage, but thankfully Garner had already pulled off the gas, allowing Regan to spill exhaustedly to all fours at her feet.
