Once again it’s time for our much maligned lightweight and welter rankings. Our rankings differ from those of my fiancé at Boxing World in several respects. We require activity. We will not allow a fighter to sit in a ranked position without fighting. A fighter, to be ranked, must fight as least every third PPV or ninety days whichever is longer. We put great emphasis on competition. A winning record is meaningless unless the competition is considered. To our way of thinking a 3-2 record against top ten opponents is better than a 10-0 record against second or third tier competition. We do not rank a fighter in more than one division. We rank them in the division in which they are most active. We do not take JMD/DD fights into consideration. Boxing World does take them into consideration. We also do not list a champion. Our rankings are one through ten with the champion frequently not being the number one, as often she is not the best fighter
LIGHTWEIGHTS
1. MARY ELIZABETH WINSTEAD She won the lightweight tournament, but it is her string of wins on the way that got her to number one, She beat Strahovski, Lima, Brook and Kendall Jenner., She normally fights a hard schedule. For that reason, I doubt her being number one is going to last
2. KENDALL JENNER Lost to Winstead in the lightweight finals, but could arguably be in the number one position
3. ADRIANA LIMA One of the favorites to win the tournament was another of Winstead victims.
4, ALEXIS REN Wasn’t involved in the tournament. Has wins over Jenner and Swift. Last fought in the September PPV
5, TAYLOR SWIFT Won over Yustman and Cuoco, but lost to Jenner
6. ANIELLA SAGRA Suffered the first loss of her career to Jenner, but beat Ambrosio in the October PPV. Very impressive in her first eleven bouts
7. ALLESANDA AMBROSIO Lost to Sagra, but beat Delevingne
8. KELLY ROHRBACH Beat Palvin, but lost to Jenner in the tournament
9. YVONNE STRAHOVSKI It could be argued that she is the best of the lightweights, however, she is now a four fight losing streak, losing to Ambrosio, Torv, Righetti in an ill advised catch weight bout and finally Winstead. A fifth loss against her expected next opponent would be a disaster and would drop her out of the rankings. Last fought in September
10,ODETTE YUSTMAN. Lost to Swift, but beat Lopilato who generally fights at bantam. She is 4-2 for the year. Although she has fought competent competition, she has lost to the two top ten fighters she has faced.
WHO IS NOT IN THE RANKINGS
SERINDA SWAN Competition. Don’t expect that to change
GEMMA ARTERTON Competition, No expectation of change
HAYLEY ATWELL Boxing World had her ranked at one in their last lightweight rankings. Even though she did beat Winstead back in July, we are not impressed with her 3-2 record. She is a JMDD specialist. She would be out on inactivity anyway
WELTERWEIGHTS
1/ KATE UPTON Beat McKinney is a title bout on the October card. Right now it’s a toss up wether she or Righetti is the best welter
2, AMANDA RIGHETTI Beat Ryan in September and Taylor Hill in October
3, TAHNEE ATKINSON Hasn’t fought since losing her title to Upton. Must fight in November
4. HANNAH FERGUSON. Lost to Decker in the Vix/Lioness stable war in Sept
5, BROOKLYN DECKER Enters back in the top ten with her win over Ferguson She is now 1-1 with her
6. HILARY RHODA Drops to six after her upset at the hands of Lawrence
7. KATY PERRY Didn’t hasn’t fought since August. She is scheduled to fight McPhee in the October Asylum. It’s a joke fight that’s not going to help her standing
8. KARLY KLOSS She lost to Upton and Prinsloo The loss to Upton didn’t hurt her standing. The loss to Prinsloo did
9. CASSIDY FREEMAN Beat Geha in a terrible mismatch on the October PPV. She previously beat Lopilato, who fights a lot at bantam. She’s 5-1 for the year, but needs to step up in competition
10, TAYLOR HILL Her loss to Righetti was expected. Doesn’t cost her her ranking
ON THE CUSP
JENNIFER LAWRENCE. Since being moved to welter she has beaten Krsmanovic and Rhoda, but lost to Kostek. Remains to be seen how she will fare at Welter
CAMILLE KOSTEK Once you get around 12 top welters, the ranks quickly thin to fighters on the downside or average. Kostek is promising. She beat Mandy Moore on the October PPV and has won three of four conventional fights. Unfortunately, she is being wasted at JMDD. Her last three fight prior to Moore were at JMDD
WHO IS NOT IN THE RANKINGS
BRIDGET REGAN Has lost four of her last five including being upset by McKinney
CHARLOTTE MCKINNEY She beat Regan and then lost a title fight to Upton. One win over a then top ten fighter does not get you into the top ten when it is the first top ten you have ever beaten and you fight a non competitive schedule
