"You've gotta wonder," says Isabella with a shake of the head, "What a girl has to DO to get management around here. I mean, I starched Dove Cameron, beat Anna Kendrick...these are champion flys, and I'm out there as a free agent while THIS girl sits comfy at Front Street. Well. When I blow her doors off tonight, maybe something changes."
"The only doors Isabella is going to be worried about tonight," says a hard-eyed Meg, "Are the doors to the locker room. Because they're going to have to be opened when they CARRY her back there."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside, and that's 'So Bad' by Lil Mosey, and here comes Columbian beauty Isabella Gomez!"
McCarthy: "Somebody must have spiked that swill Weirdo drinks, because, not only does this kid HAVE FCBA wins, she has a WINNING RECORD!"
Cassie: "And, she's been plenty impressive in those wins, too."
O'Dell: "Brunette beauty down the aisle and into the ring where she's helped off with the robe to reveal a jade number that has the crowd buzzing. And, that's 'BAAM' you hear behind us, and here comes the singer of that tune, 'The Peapack Punisher', Meg Donnelly!"
Tess: "Donnelly's done very well in her time at Front Street, but there's no doubt she's at the bottom the flyweight division here. A win tonight could certainly help her keep pace."
O'Dell: "Meg into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve, and the crowd reacting to the blonde beauty in that yellow number we've seen before. Ladies about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Meg. Mac?"
McCarthy: "WINNING RECORD! Gomez!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Split panel. Let's see who's right. Gomez wants to go to work here, coming forward, looking to pressure. Meg fully expecting this and having none of it. She's giving ground, working the jab, moving laterally, scoring with both hands..."
Tess: "Too much aggression from Gomez..."
O'Dell: "No doubt about it, and it's playing into Meg's hands at the moment. Donnelly more than willing to play matador to the brunette's bull right now. She's powdering the Colombian's face as Gomez tries to close and bang..."
Cassie: "Really good stuff from Donnelly right now."
O'Dell: "Inside twenty to go in the first, and the blonde's been in control throughout. GOOD combination Meg, and there was a SOLID right hand in there. Final seconds tick away, and there's the bell. Donnelly gets the points and wide..."
McCarthy: "And, she leads 10-9."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Gomez dialing back from eleven now. She's still working forward, but she's doing so more soundly. Tucking the head, angling, looking to get the geometry right. Donnelly still giving ground, working the left, wants space..."
McCarthy: "All about the terms right now, Jenny..."
O'Dell: "And, both fighters getting some, but not ALL of what they want, and that's leading to a good, two-way round in the second. Donnelly managing with that left. Meg younger than Isabella, but she has a TON more FCBA experience..."
Tess: "And, she's leaning on that right now."
O'Dell: "Meanwhile, the Colombian has a TON of power at this weight, and she's looking to bring that to bear. We're almost out of time in the second. It's very close. GOOD exchange there and Isabella gets the better of it. There's the bell. Gomez. Narrowly."
Cassie: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Pattern set in this one. All about space. Gomez wants to close, Donnelly wants some range. And, it's going to come down to who gets what she wants. For the second round in a row, both fighters having moments, but no one taking control..."
McCarthy: "Kid just needs to keep after the Dancing Hooker..."
O'Dell: "That's what Isabella is doing and SHE ROCKS MEG WITH A RIGHT HAND! Blonde's knees do a shimmy and the brunette is all in, tossing heavy leather at the retreating Front Streeter. Donnelly now backed to the ropes and taking..."
Cassie: "Ref looking in closely..."
O'Dell: "Meg in a tight earmuff. Jabbing back in spots. Playing this smart. Gomez giving all she's got to get the blonde out of there. Ten seconds left. GOOD right, Isabella, but there's the bell. Donnelly rides it out, but Gomez takes it wide."
Tess: "And pulls into the 29-28 lead."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Gomez pressuring to start the fourth. Donnelly giving ground, keeping the hands high, countering in spots. Isabella looking to finish here, or at least clean up, but Meg seems to have shaken the worst of the damage..."
Tess: "Legs definitely look to be back."
O'Dell: "And, Donnelly getting stronger as this round goes on. She's more than holding her own now, showing that matador stuff of the first round as Isabella gets a little too aggressive for her own good. SOLID right hand from Donnelly there..."
McCarthy: "Kid just has to keep coming. She'll get her."
O'Dell: "Well, Gomez IS going to keep coming. She's determined to bring that power to bear on the blonde. But, Meg able to work that left and those feet, keep Isabella at bay. There's the bell. Close, but Donnelly in the fourth."
Cassie: "Even again, this time at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Gomez working forward as we start the fifth. She's looking to get that big right hand on again. Meg working the jab and feet, putting punches together well. Scoring a lot of points early in this stanza and there's a SOLID right hand from Donnelly..."
Cassie: "Isabella FELT that..."
O'Dell: "Sure did and Meg follows up with ANOTHER big combination that wobbles the brunette's knees! Donnelly pushing all the chips to the middle of the table now, winging away with both hands and DROPPING ISABELLA WITH A RIGHT HOOK!"
Tess: "That might do it..."
O'Dell: "Gomez down on her right side as Meg bounces to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Gomez pushing to hands and knees at six. Seven. Eight. Not going to happen. Nine. TEN! It's OVER! Isabella still on all fours as the count passes her by and it's OVER! And your winner by KO5 is 'The Peapack Punisher', Meg Donnelly!"
McCarthy: "Lucky punch!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Meg Donnelly, and, Meg, she has a lot of power, but you handled it..."
Meg (nodding): "Well, I knew she could hit coming in. This girl beat Kendrick and Cameron with that right hand. So, had to be careful and fight my fight, which is just what I did."
Tess: "A successful 2023 for you. What are the plans for 2024?"
Meg (smiling): "About time I got some gold around this waist. Know what I mean?"
"You've gotta wonder," says Isabella with a shake of the head, "What a girl has to DO to get management around here.
