BEFORE:
"There was a time," Brittany says with a shake of the head, "That this was the only place I could get fights. One a year. It was unfair, really, coming in against talented girls getting regular work, but I did it, because I had to. Now, it's different. Now, I'M getting regular work. And you're about to see how much difference that makes."
"She always deserved better than being an indie," says Ariel. "She's talented and tough. But, tonight? She's not enough of either."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and the four-sided giant screen lowered over the arena, which means Asylum Beach is about to get some use. And that's 'Time of the Season' by Ben Taylor you hear behind us, and that can only mean that the lovely Brittany Snow is coming across the sand..."
McCarthy: "Brittany Snow of SCEEJ BOXING! This kid has PLENTY of talent, she just needs the guiding hand of J-Mac to become a CHAMPION..."
O'Dell: "Snow into the ring and helped off with the robe, and the crowd liking the redhead in that cobalt blue number we've seen before. And, that's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' booming through the arena, and here comes the singer of that cover version of the Taylor Swift hit, Ariel 'Dangerous Curves' Winter..."
McCarthy: "Yet ANOTHER failed Dancing Hooker. Waited FIVE YEARS to get a title shot and spit the bit again, this time against that overrated Lavigne..."
Tess: "While I'll admit I was rooting for Ariel, I HARDLY consider Avril overrated..."
McCarthy: "Which is why YOU'VE never been an FCBA champion! You know NOTHING about this sport..."
Cassie: "If I mention the H.O.F. right now, her head will explode, won't it?"
Tess: "I'll pay you not to..."
McCarthy: "What ARE you two babbling about?"
O'Dell: "Last fight. Just get through this one and that bottle from Pointy's cellars will be in my hotel room. Winter between the ropes and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. Crowd popping for the lovely Ariel in that curve-hugging white number she likes. And, the ladies are about ready. Time for some picks. Tess likes Winter. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Snow is going to STARCH this Dancing Hooker!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "There's the bell. Snow on the move early. She's on her toes, snapping out that left hand, getting it in Winter's face. Brittany's got the reach advantage here, and she's using it well. She wants space to box, and, if she gets it, this may not go well for the brunette..."
Cassie: "Ariel definitely likes the pressure game."
O'Dell: "Does, indeed, and, right now, that's not working, because Snow's keeping her mostly at arm's length with that accurate left hand. Brittany moving VERY well out there. Sand flying as she bounces across the beach..."
McCarthy: "Looks a little like J-Mac, doesn't she? And, that's no co-incidence!"
O'Dell: "Down the stretch in what's been a very good first round for the redhead. Snow moving, jabbing, putting together punches. Winter stalking patiently, but not getting much done. There's the bell. No doubt about it. Snow. Wide."
Tess: "And, Brittany takes the early 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Winter stalking early. She's angling more now, looking to get past that jab. When she can, she steps to and begins working body. Brittany quickly tying up in there, hanging on, getting breaks. Resetting back at range working the left."
McCarthy: "THIS is what you have to do against girls like Winter. JUST like I planned it!"
O'Dell: "Winter getting more of what she wants this round, though Snow is working hard to keep the inside exchanges short, and she's mostly succeeding. Brittany offsetting the brunette's inside work with her own at range."
Tess: "And, nobody really gaining an advantage here."
O'Dell: "They are not. We're in the final ten seconds of the round. GOOD right by Ariel there! Best punch of the fight from Winter, but Snow shakes it off, circles away, and there's the bell. Close this time, but Winter gets the points."
Cassie: "And evens things at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Third verse, same as the second. Winter working forward, angling, looking to slip the jab and step to. Snow active with the left, trying to create distance, and, getting off in combination when she's able to do so."
Cassie: "Key here is going to be Brittany's abilities to deal with Ariel inside."
O'Dell: "No question about it, and, what she's doing right now is tying her up in there. At times, that's successful. At others, Winter is able to shove her off. Add it all up, and we've got another good, competitive round here."
McCarthy: "Everything according to plan. Everything according to plan."
O'Dell: "Final seconds ticking away in this one. GOOD combination from Snow there! NAILED Winter with a hard right hand, and there's the bell. Close again in this one, but the blonde is going to get the points to go back into the lead."
Tess: "29-28 Brittany after three."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins and the pattern set. Winter wants to bang, Snow wants to box. Ariel inside, working some body and ROCKED WITH A RIGHT HOOK! Oh, a sneaky little hook from Brittany and Ariel is HURT!"
McCarthy: "J-MAC taught her that!"
O'Dell: "Snow now letting the hands go, backing up the brunette and DROPPING HER IN THE SAND WITH A STRAIGHT RIGHT! Ariel SPLASHES to her back in the sand and Brittany heads to a neutral corner to watch and wait..."
Tess: "NASTY right hand!"
O'Dell: "Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Winter sits up at six. Seven. Eight. Ariel to her feet. Referee going to think about it as he gives her the mandatory then wave on Snow!. Redhead all in, battering the brunette to the ropes. She's looking for the finisher here..."
McCarthy: "Come ON, you HOMETOWN REF, stop it!"
O'Dell: "Ref looking in closely. Winter in a high, tight guard, jabbing back in spots. Brittany winging away with both hands. She definitely wants to finish this thing, but it's not going to happen. Final seconds tick away and there's the bell. HUGE round for Snow!"
Cassie: "And a huge lead, 39-36!"
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Snow kicking up sand as she charges across the ring to get after Winter. Ariel keeping the guard high, giving ground, countering in spots here. Snow a little too aggressive, getting sloppy in spots, opening herself up to counters..."
McCarthy: "SETTLE DOWN, KID! YOU'VE GOT HER!"
Tess: "Um, Mac. They are ACROSS THE STREET! She can't hear you!"
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, WALMART!"
O'Dell: "Drink up, boys as Winter lands a SOLID right-hand counter and backs SNOW up with a nice flurry! Ariel seems to have shaken the worst of the damage now, and she's more than holding her own. Redhead, all of a sudden, in retreat..."
Cassie: "Snow a little spooked by that right hand."
O'Dell: "Looks that way. She's getting back to working the jab at range now. She's built up a lead here and doesn't want to do anything silly and give this one away. Final seconds ticking off in the fifth and there's the bell. Close. Winter, and she cuts the lead to 48-46 at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Sixth begins where we were before the Snow knockdown. Redhead at range working the jab and the feet, kicking up sand, brunette stalking, angling forward, going body, and STAGGERING SNOW WITH A LEFT HOOK!"
Cassie: "How's that PLAN going, Mac?"
McCarthy: "SHUT UP, SCABBO!"
O'Dell: "Ariel letting the hands go now, backing up the older woman with a barrage of heavy leather. Brittany pinned to the ropes, but playing some solid defense despite clearly being buzzed. She's got the guard high, blocking, rolling with..."
McCarthy: "JUST like I TAUGHT you, kid. Ride it out. You're FINE..."
O'Dell: "Winter DIGGING some body now, since the redhead's put it on sale. She's looking to bring that guard down, but Snow not having any. Down under ten seconds to go in this one. GOOD right, Ariel wobbled Brittany...but there's the bell! Winter. Wide."
Tess: "But, Snow still has the lead, 57-56."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Winter looking to finish this thing now, charging across the sand like Snow did in the fifth. Ariel RIGHT in Brittany's grill, backing her up with hard shot to the head, working that body with hooks, REALLY giving the redhead a beating..."
McCarthy: "REF NEEDS TO WATCH FOR LOW BLOWS!"
O'Dell: "GOOD right from WInter! Brittany wobbled by that right hand! Ariel letting the hands go now, looking to finish this thing. RIGHT HOOK, ARIEL and DOWN GOES BRITTANY! Snow crashing onto her right side in the sand!"
Tess: "That might get it done..."
McCarthy: "GET UP, YOU BUM!"
O'Dell: "Referee's count at three. Four. Five. Snow rolling to her belly at six. Pushing to hands and knees at seven. Eight. Nine...and she SLUMPS BACK TO THE SAND! TEN! It's OVER! Snow can't beat the count and it's OVER and your winner by KO7 is Ariel 'Dangerous Curves' Winter!"
McCarthy: "I demand a RECOUNT! This is a TRAGEDY OF JUSTICE! SIRI, CALL JACKIE CHILES! I'LL SUE! I'LL SUE!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go across the street, where SANITY might reign, to Cassie Scerbo!"
Cassie: "I have our winner, Ariel Winter, and, Curves, that wasn't easy tonight..."
Ariel: "As you can see by the sand on my a**, it wasn't. Like I said, she's talented and she's tough and this was always GOING to be a fight. But. I was always going to WIN it."
Cassie: "What's next for you?"
Ariel (smiling): "I'm liking this beach stuff...and the JMD stuff. Maybe I'll keep working there, see if I can get a title shot. It's all up to management. Hint. Hint."
"There was a time," Brittany says with a shake of the head, "That this was the only place I could get fights. One a year.
