BEFORE:
"We've had a few dances," Emily says with a smile. "One of them went on just about all night. But, the thing to remember is, I'M the one who's won two of the three, and tonight, I'll make it three of four."
"She's as good as anyone I've ever been in with," Chloe admits. "But, I'm the better fighter, and I'm going to prove it tonight."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'I Raise Up' by Bushwalla you hear, and here comes four-time former Unified Bantamweight Champion Emily VanCamp!"
Tess: "VanCamp and her opponent tonight, Chloe Bennet, famously went SEVENTEEN rounds back in 2016 with VanCamp winning..."
Cassie: "They've fought twice since, once with Bennet taking the bantamweight belts from VanCamp, and, the second time with Emily returning the favor..."
O'Dell: "Blonde beauty into the ring and helped off with the robe to reveal a titanium yellow number that has the crowd popping, and that's..."
McCarthy: "And EXCRETIOUS assault on my OLFACTION!"
Tess: "Do they still SELL dictionaries, BFF?"
Cassie: "Never mind that. I'm sure we have a gross in one of Uncle Wiz's warehouses. We have a gross of EVERYTHING in one of those..."
McCarthy: "What ARE you two babbling about..."
O'Dell: "A-HEM! IF we could keep our attention on the ring, that's 'Uh-Oh' by the young lady coming to the ring right now, 'The Next Big Thing', Chloe Bennet..."
Tess: "Chloe remains right in the middle of the bantamweight title picture if the rankings are any indication, but she's fighting for the top spot in the pecking order at Front Street with Lili Reinhart..."
Cassie: "Good problem to have, and Front Street HAS it."
O'Dell: "Chloe into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve. Crowd liking Ms. Bennet in that blue number she likes. And, the ladies are about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes Chloe. Mac?"
McCarthy: "VanCamp's a REAL fighter! Emily!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Here we go. Bennet working the left hand, wants to box at range. VanCamp's seen this play before and doesn't like it. Blonde wants middle distances and she knows how to get there, backs Bennet up with a nice flurry..."
Tess: "This fight is likely to be ALL about terms. If VanCamp can work from where she is right now, it's going to be a long night for Chloe...or a short one..."
O'Dell: "But, if Bennet can work at range or, alternatively, get inside, the brunette will have the edge. Right now, though it's Emily getting most of what she wants. She's had the advantage throughout this opening stanza..."
McCarthy: "And, she'll have it the whole fight. This Dancing Hooker landed one lucky punch in one of the three fights and VanCamp took her to school in the other two..."
Cassie: "What fights were YOU watching?"
O'Dell: "I'M watching this one, and, as we come down the stretch, there's no doubt who's in control of the first, and it's Emily VanCamp. She's gotten much the better of things the entire round and, there's the bell. Emily wide and with the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second begins with a Bennet adjustment. Chloe closing now, getting inside, banging some body. When Emily retreats to try to get some distance, Bennet steps back to range, used the jab, makes the blonde work to get to her spots..."
Cassie: "Good stuff from Chloe..."
O'Dell: "Definitely is. She's taken control of the fight simply by dictating distance. It's, as we said in the previous round, either inside or out, but never in between and it's making a huge difference, as the brunette's out-pointing the blonde in the second."
Tess: "And, as well as these two know one another, another adjustment is coming."
O'Dell: "No doubt about it, but not just yet. We're into the final thirty seconds, and Bennet's maintaining command. SOLID right from Chloe backs Emily up and there's the bell. A no doubt round goes to the brunette this time..."
McCarthy: "And, we're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Ladies working to negotiate terms as we start the third. More head movement now from Emily as she works to slip that jab, get to spots, get off quickly, then use the feet. There's no dancing from either fighter, but both are moving well."
McCarthy: "A lot of times, boxing movements are subtle..."
O'Dell: "Indeed, they are. It's all about inches and angles and being able to land punches or avoid punches from where you find yourself. Doesn't take much to wrong-foot an opponent, but it can give you a significant advantage..."
Cassie: "It's also a matter of inches when you slip a punch or block one..."
O'Dell: "And, this round has seen plenty of both, blocking and slipping, along with some solid leather landing and there's not a lot in it. Final seconds ticking away. SHARP exchange there, with Bennet getting the better of it, and there's the bell. Close. Chloe."
Tess: "And Bennet pulls into the 29-28 lead."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "More boxing and motion to start the fourth. No surprise that we'd see a display of this kind of skill in a fight between these two, as both are excellent tactical fighters and they're proving it right now. NICE exchange there and VanCamp backed up Bennet..."
Tess: "They say styles make fights. Well, the styles here have made three great fights..."
O'Dell: "And a fourth might well be taking place tonight. Emily moving the head, hands, and feet, looking to get inside the jab, get off before Chloe can close and bang with her. Bennet stepping to on occasion, hooking some body..."
McCarthy: "But, VanCamp keeping those exchanges short."
O'Dell: "Is, indeed. She's using a drop step, moving laterally, anything to foul the sights and get the terms she wants. Bennet working just as hard to be either in or out but never in between. Final seconds tick away in the fourth and there's the bell. Close again. Emily."
Cassie: "And, it shouldn't be a surprise that these two are even after four. It's 38-38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Fifth underway in another close affair between VanCamp and Bennet. Both ladies getting some work in early in the round, but neither able to take any sort of control. Bennet a SOLID right hand and VANCAMP DROPS HER!"
McCarthy: "THERE you go!"
O'Dell: "Emily a VICIOUS right hand and Chloe is blown to her back. Blonde to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Six. Bennet sits up at seven. Eight. To her feet at nine! Referee going to give her the mandatory and Emily looking like a thoroughbred in the stall at Belmont..."
Cassie: "No doubt she's ready to go..."
O'Dell: "Ref waves on the blonde and she's RIGHT in Chloe's grill, backing the brunette to the ropes with flurry after flurry of hard shot. Bennet with the guard high, rolling with, blocking, slipping, jabbing back in spots. Ref looking in closely, but the brunette keeping him at bay...and there's the bell! BIG round for VanCamp!"
Tess: "She gets it 10-8 and pulls into a 48-46 lead at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "VanCamp all about the finisher now. Blonde beauty stepping to, working the brunette over to head and body. Chloe clearly unsteady, in deep trouble, just playing defense and trying to buy some time, but EVC isn't selling..."
McCarthy: "Just a matter of time now..."
O'Dell: "Emily with a good right hand, backs Bennet up a step. Chloe clinching, but the blonde shrugs her off, goes to the body, then backs the brunette up again with a right hook. Bennet now pinned to the ropes, not where she wants to be..."
Tess: "It definitely is NOT..."
O'Dell: "VanCamp no longer in 'seek and destroy mode', it's just 'destroy' now, as seeking is unnecessary. She's working Chloe to the body in a big way as Bennet hangs on in a high guard. Ten seconds left. GOOD right from Emily. Ref looking in closely...there's the bell! Shutout, VanCamp."
Cassie: "And EVC extends the lead to 58-55."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "VanCamp rolling to start the seventh. Bennet still trying to shake the combined damage of the last couple of rounds. Blonde working smartly, soundly, setting up punches, going body, then head, then back to the body..."
Cassie: "This is great stuff from Emily. Reminds you of why she's been Unified Bantamweight Champion four times and has a Hall of Fame winning percentage..."
O'Dell: "GOOD combination by VanCamp and Bennet with a right hand counter there. Best punch for Chloe in some time, and she's starting to get back into it now. Emily still having the better of things, but Bennet's legs coming back..."
Tess: "Might be too late, though..."
O'Dell: "Could well be. Definitely too late for this round. We're down under 20 seconds to go. SHARP exchange there with both fighters landing a good right hand, and there's the bell. No doubts again. VanCamp takes the points wide."
McCarthy: "68-64 with three rounds to go."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "We're rewinding to the early rounds here in the eighth as the ladies are working hard for position now. Bennet's got the legs back under her. She's using the jab, trying to get range. Failing that, she steps to and bangs..."
McCarthy: "Her corner should be telling her she's well behind and needs a knockout!"
O'Dell: "I'm sure Chloe's aware of the position she finds herself in, but she's not going to get sloppy here, not against a fighter like VanCamp. Emily, meanwhile, getting work of her own done at middle distances. She's not sitting on this lead..."
Tess: "Which, again, shows how smart she is."
O'Dell: "Indeed, it does. You don't want to start shutting down the machinery, not with so much time to go. You've got to keep it revved up. Maybe you're a bit more cautious, but that's as far as you can go. Final seconds tick away and there's the bell, Close to Bennet."
Cassie: "And Chloe cuts the lead to three, 77-74, but she's running out of time."
ROUND NINE:
O'Dell: "Ninth underway and BENNET ROCKS VANCAMP! Right off the bell, Chloe lands a SCINTILLATING right hand, and Emily is rumblin', stumblin', fumblin' around the ring! Chloe ALL IN immediately now, trying to end this thing..."
McCarthy: "This is what she should have been doing LAST round..."
O'Dell: "Bennet driving all before her, forcing the blonde to the ropes and HAVING AT HER! VanCamp putting the body on sale, but Bennet not buying at any price. It's all head-hunting now, as the brunette looks to find the 'off' button..."
Cassie: "She's throwing everything but the kitchen sink at her..."
O'Dell: "But, Emily slick, smart, keeping the guard high, rolling with, jabbing back just enough to keep the referee at bay. We're down under ten seconds. GOOD right from Bennet. VanCamp shaken, but stays on her feet and there's the bell! Shutout, Chloe."
Tess: "But Emily still leads 86-84 with one round to go."
ROUND TEN:
O'Dell: "Final scheduled round, and I say 'scheduled', because these two have gone OT before, and Bennet needs something big and knows it. She's after VanCamp, damning any and all torpedoes, looking to take the blonde out of there..."
Tess: "Emily, as always, playing it smart. Guard high, giving ground..."
O'Dell: "Knows very well the clock is her friend here. Chloe stepping to, backing up VanCamp with a combination to the head. Emily willing to trade space for time and DOWN GOES VANCAMP after an absolutely BRUTAL body shot!"
Cassie: "SHOVEL HOOK! SHOVEL HOOK!"
O'Dell: "Just about the first body punch Bennet's thrown in the back half of the fight! VanCamp down, curled into a ball. Bennet to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Emily trying to fight to all fours. Six. Seven. She can't do it! Eight. Nine. TEN! The count passes VanCamp by and it's OVER! ANOTHER Fight of The Year candidate between these two, and your winner by KO10 in comeback fashion is 'The Next Big Thing', Chloe Bennet!"
McCarthy: "Another lucky punch..."
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Tess Valmore!"
Tess: "I have our winner, Chloe Bennet, and Chloe, another great one between you and Emily..."
Chloe: "Knew it was going to be a war with her. Always is. I've never been in with better, and I've been in with a lot of the best. Nothing but respect for her. I hope she gets the fights to get into the Hall, because she deserves it."
Tess: "Where'd that shovel hook come from?"
Chloe (smiling): "My back pocket. I beat her with that for the title. I knew she'd be looking for it, be ready for it, so I didn't use it. Until I needed it. I picked my spot and I landed it clean...and evened up the series with her. And, before you ask, yeah. There's gonna be a fifth fight at some point. As Wiz would say, 'Count on it!'"
"We've had a few dances," Emily says with a smile. "One of them went on just about all night. But, the thing to remember is, I'M the one who's won two of the three, and tonight, I'll make it three of four."
