BEFORE:
"It's been awhile," says the blonde with a smile. "Katy Perry and I went 12 here more than a decade ago. Well. I'm a DIFFERENT Taylor Swift now. It won't be going 12, and I WILL be getting my hand raised."
"She's definitely right at the top of the lightweights," the brunette admits. "But, so am I. She got me the last time on the beach. But, this time, things will be different."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and the four-sided giant screen lowered over the arena, which means Asylum Beach, with plenty of patio heaters and fire pits functioning, is about to get some use. And, that's 'Fearless' you're hearing, and onto the sand walks the singer of that tune, Taylor Swift!"
McCarthy: "Weirdo has definitely lost it bringing in THIS girl to fight the talentless toothpick!"
O'Dell: "Swift through the ropes and helped off with the robe to reveal a black number that gets the crowd going. And, that's 'Natural' by Imagine Dragons booming through the arena, and here comes 'The Face', Taylor Hill!"
Tess: "Hill getting pushes at light, welter, and here on the beach, and this is obviously a big one for her tonight."
Cassie: "No doubt about that."
O'Dell: "Brunette into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve and the crowd loving the lovely Ms. Hill in that azure number she likes..."
McCarthy: "These people have LOW standards..."
O'Dell: "Ladies about ready. It's time for some picks. Tess likes Hill. Mac?"
McCarthy: "Swift easily beats the toothpick!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "There's the bell. Ladies kicking up sand early as they make with the feet. Both women want to fight at range here, and it's all about angles and distance. Plenty of geometry involved right now and A RIGHT HAND, HILL and Swift is HURT! blonde stumbling backward after a BLISTERING right from the brunette!"
Tess: "Lots of girls in this weight wouldn't still be on their feet. That was a SHOT!"
O'Dell: "It was, indeed, and now Hill is ALL in! She's firing away with both hands, backing the blonde across the beach, trapping her on the ropes, going body now in a big way. Singer willing to put it on sale to keep the hands high and try to ride out this storm..."
McCarthy: "Just get through the round and you'll get the toothpick..."
O'Dell: "Getting through the round is the plan. And, Hill trying to send that plan to the scrap heap as she goes upstairs, then back down, looking for the finisher here. Singer denying her that as the final seconds tick away. GOOD right from the model and there's the bell. Hill. Wide. But Swift still standing..."
Cassie: "And trailing 10-9."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Second underway and Hill coming forward across the sand. She's looking to consolidate gains from the last round as Swift gives ground, taking fire from all directions and ROCKING THE BRUNETTE WITH A RIGHT HAND COUNTER! Oh, a LOVELY right from the blonde and the model is HURT!"
McCarthy: "SEE? FINISH THE TOOTHPICK!"
O'Dell: "Swift looking to do just that. She's calling in artillery strikes and DROPPING THE BRUNETTE WITH A STRAIGHT RIGHT HAND! A BOOMING right from the blonde and Hill flat on her back on the sand. Swift to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Brunette sits up at six. Seven. Eight. Hill to her feet at nine..."
Cassie: "And not looking at all steady..."
O'Dell: "Ref thinking about it as he gives the sand-covered model the mandatory...and waves on Swift. Blonde ALL IN now, banging away, driving all before her. Hill to the ropes, soaking up punishment as the ref looks in. He's ready to pounce, but time's a wastin'. Just seconds to go in the second. GOOD right from Swift and there's the bell!"
Tess: "Hill survives, but Swift's got in 10-8 and she's in the lead 19-18 after two."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "Swift on a mission as we start the third, and that mission is 'search and destroy'. And, the 'search' part isn't all that difficult, because the blonde's opponent is on shaky legs and not moving all that well. Singer working the left jab, then following on with rights, walking forward..."
Tess: "And, almost nothing coming back from Hill..."
O'Dell: "Brunette just trying to survive right now, play for time, giving ground, backing across the sand. Swift kicking up sand as she moves forward, landing hard shot, looking to finish this thing. It's been all Swift all the time in this one, but for the moment at least, Hill's been able to stay on her feet..."
McCarthy: "Just keep after her. She'll collapse like a house of cards!"
O'Dell: "We're down under 30 seconds remaining. NICE combination by Swift and ANOTHER. Hill rope bound now, guard up high, and the blonde goes body. Hill clinching, trying to slow this down. Swift stacks her and bangs a little rack in there as the bell rings ending the third. Shutout, Swift."
Cassie: "And, the blonde's lead is now two, 29-27."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Swift keeping the pressure on early. Hill's legs firming up some, though, and the brunette is firing back now. And. HERE. WE. GO! Ladies letting the hands go in the middle of the ring. Punches and sand flying as both fighters are sitting down on everything at the moment..."
Cassie: "Everybody looking to impose will..."
O'Dell: "And nobody willing to be imposed UPON. GOOD right from Swift. GOOD right from Hill! Ladies just letting it go right now, and if this keeps up, something's going to have to give pretty quickly. Blonde circles away now, gets back to the jab. She's not willing to take more chances here..."
McCarthy: "SMART! She's the better fighter and she has the lead."
O'Dell: "Coming down the stretch. Pretty close in this stanza. Ladies moving, sand flying, as they look for openings and fill them with leather. Nice exchange there with both fighters landing a hard right hand and there's the bell. Going to be close for the first time all night. Too close. Even round."
Tess: "And, Swift's lead remains two, 39-37."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Two way stuff to begin the fifth, but the ladies working at range now, getting their respective boxes on. Nobody looking to trade bombs in the middle of the ring. Instead, it's tactical stuff and both Taylors are good at this. NICE exchange there with good right hands landed on both sides..."
McCarthy: "This toothpick is lucky to still be standing, but Swift's going to take care of that."
O'Dell: "She's come close already, that's for sure. GOOD combination by the blonde there, backs the brunette up a step, but Hill fires right back, landing a solid right hand to the singer's head. Lots of action this stanza, but this is also stuff a purist would love..."
Tess: "Definitely is. A lot of movement of head, hands, feet. Feints, all looking to create openings."
O'Dell: "And, it's not just about creating them, but taking advantage of them, and that's what both fighters are doing. SHARP exchange there and both heads snapped back by a solid right hand. Five seconds to go...and there's the bell. Another close one, but as the fighters head across the sand to their corners, it's Swift who's gotten the points."
Cassie: "And the blonde's lead is three, 49-46 at the half."
ROUND SIX:
O'Dell: "Sixth underway and we're back at range with both blonde and brunette boxing, looking to get the jab on and follow and both having some success doing that. GOOD right hand by Hill! That shook Swift a little and the brunette knows it. Model going all in now, winging away..."
Cassie: "Swift definitely a bit buzzed!"
O'Dell: "And Hill looking to take full advantage. She's walking Swift down behind the left jab, dropping in HARD right hands, punishing the blonde. Singer giving ground, playing for time, needs to get those legs back under her. GOOD right from Hill and that one shook Swift as well..."
McCarthy: "She's FINE. Just hang in there..."
O'Dell: "And, that's what the singer is trying to do. Meanwhile, the brunette is clinically pounding her, looking to get her out of there. But, it's not going to happen in this round. Just five seconds left. GOOD right from Hill and there's the bell. Swift lives to fight another day and the brunette takes the points wide."
Tess: "But still trails 58-56."
ROUND SEVEN:
O'Dell: "Hill looking to press the advantage but EATS A COUPLE OF RIGHT HANDS from Swift! Brunette on the retreat immediately as the blonde comes forward. GOOD right hand from the singer and now HILL might be a little buzzed. Sand flying as Swift takes control of things again..."
Tess: "This fight has been NUTS..."
O'Dell: "Blonde walking forward, backing the brunette up again and again. She's getting the jab on and following with right hands. Hill willing to allow the singer to take as much sand as she wants. Brunette engaging in somewhat of a fighting retreat, but it's a retreat..."
McCarthy: "Swift is one good right from ending the toothpick's night."
O'Dell: "We're down to fifteen seconds remaining in the seventh. GOOD combination from Swift backs up the model. Hill's managed to stay off the ropes this stanza and counter in spots, but, there's the bell and there's no doubt about the points. Swift wide in the seventh."
Cassie: "And the blonde pulls back to a three point lead with three to go. It's 68-65."
ROUND EIGHT:
O'Dell: "Swift looking to come forward and GETS ROCKED WITH A RIGHT HAND FROM HILL! Blonde wobbles on the spot, clinches to avoid going down. Model shoves her off, lands a NASTY right hook that sends the singer stumbling to her right! Ref looking in here..."
McCarthy: "He'd better not hometown TAYLOR SWIFT!"
O'Dell: "Hill clinical, landing the jab, then backing the older woman up with hard right hands. She's definitely looking to finish now, and the blonde all about trying to survive this thing. Swift backed to the ropes. Hill going body, hooking ribs and tenderizing tummy..."
Cassie: "And we can HEAR those blows landing even though they're on the other side of the ring..."
O'Dell: "Swift clinches. Hill stacks her and RACKS HER with a hard right hand! Swift wobbles again and the ref not going to watch much more of this. Ten seconds to go in the round. Combination, Hill! Swift looking ready to go...BELL! The bell rings and Taylor Swift survives. Hill pitches the shutout, but Swift survives."
Tess: "And still leads 77-75."
ROUND NINE:
O'Dell: "Now HILL is the Taylor on a missing. She's coming forward aggressively behind the left hand. Swift has no legs at all right now. She's an easy target for the brunette, who's getting off lusty with both hands trying to finish this thing right now. Blonde backed to the ropes again. She clinches, hangs on, gets a break and slips away..."
Tess: "Good, veteran stuff from Swift..."
O'Dell: "Definitely is, and she's going to need all of those wiles to survive the onslaught, because Hill's all OVER her, banging away to head and body, looking for the shot that will put an end to this thing...and DOWN GOES SWIFT! Right hook! Right hook from Hill and the blonde splashes down on her right side in the sand!"
McCarthy: "GET UP! GET UP! GET UP!"
O'Dell: "Hill to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Swift pushing to hands and knees at six. Takes a look at the ropes, but they are FAR, FAR AWAY. Seven. Eight. SWIFT SLUMPS BACK TO THE SAND! Nine! TEN! It's over! It's OVER! And your winner by KO9 is 'The Face' Taylor Hill!"
Cassie: "HUGE win for Hill! HUGE!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go across the street to Cassie Scerbo!"
Cassie: "I have our winner, Taylor Hill, and, Taylor, that was a CRAZY fight..."
Taylor (nodding): "She's just about as good as it gets, Cassie. She can hurt you any time, she can out box you any time. So, you've got to bring your 'A' game and you have to have answers when she gets things going. And, I think I answered all the questions correctly tonight."
Cassie: "Sure looked that way. Obviously a huge victory on the sand, a huge victory over a top light, and a win that evens your lifetime series at 1. What's next for you?"
Taylor: "Look, I'm around, you know? I'm here to chase gold. Light, welter, beach? I'm around."
