BEFORE:
"It's always fun to fight here," Brenda says with a smile. "Philly was home for a long time, and it's great to be back. And, it's great to get in the ring with Kristen again. The first time it was a great fight. Tonight, it will be better. Because, tonight, I'M going to win."
"Brenda is very difficult to fight," Kristen admits. "She's unorthodox, quick, talented. Very, very tough to beat. But. I did it once. I'll do it again."
ROUND ONE:
O'Dell: "Back at ringside and that's 'Hungarian Rhapsody #2' by Liszt and here comes former Bazz beauty Brenda Song..."
Cassie: "Bren-DA! Bren-DA!"
McCarthy: "Little WEASEL..."
Tess: "In case some of you don't know, Brenda once hit Mac DEAD in the face with a pudding filled balloon..."
McCarthy: "And if she tries anything like that tonight, it's ON!"
O'Dell (sighing): "Brenda into the ring and helped off with the robe, and the crowd popping for the brunette in that black number she likes. And, that's 'Helter Skelter' you hear hammering through the arena, and here comes 'The Five-Tool Player', Kristen Stewart!"
McCarthy: "FINALLY! A REAL fighter!"
Cassie: "Flyweight division at Front Street is pretty crowded these days with Billie and Meg getting plenty of traction, and, of course, Ariel in the Top Ten. Kris wants to hang on to that top spot in the pecking order, so she needs a result tonight."
O'Dell: "Stewart into the ring and helped off with the robe by Jewel and Neve, and the crowd showing appreciation for Kristen in that lime green number she likes. Ladies about ready to go. Time for some picks. Tess likes K-Stew. Mac?"
McCarthy: "A REAL fighter vs. a WEASEL! Kristen!"
O'Dell: "Cassie?"
Cassie: "I agree with Tess!"
O'Dell: "Here we go. Brenda with that unorthodox style, always hard to deal with. She's working on slipping that long K-Stew jab, getting to middle distances and getting off, and, at the moment, having some success doing that. Stewart not able to find right now with that left..."
McCarthy: "This is what can happen against a girl whose got a style like hers. You can prepare for it all you want, but, until you get in there..."
O'Dell: "And, right now, Kristen's having problems with accuracy, which is not something you say very often about a fighter as precise as Stewart is. Brenda's playing all the angles and playing them perfectly, while Kristen's just working to get the distance she wants, at least for the moment..."
Tess: "No doubt, Brenda's having the better of things..."
O'Dell: "And, in a big way at the moment. Stewart not hurt, but looking a little frustrated here in the first. Just ten seconds to go in the round. Good right hand by Brenda, and there's the bell. Round could not have gone much better for Song, who's going to take it wide."
Cassie: "And grab the 10-9 lead."
ROUND TWO:
O'Dell: "Stewart adjusting a bit as we start the second. She's doubling up on the left, trying to use it to locate and set up right hands. Not getting as much of that done as she'd like, but she is having some success. Brenda, meanwhile, moving the head, getting inside the jab, getting off like in the previous round..."
Cassie: "Having been in the ring with Brenda a LOT, I'll say that you just can't get used to what she does."
O'Dell: "Definitely sends punches at you from angles you're not expecting, and that can make things difficult for sure. Stewart with a nice combination there and Brenda with a SOLID right hand counter. Sneaky punch right there, but a very effective one from Song..."
McCarthy: "Stewart just needs to keep working. She'll get that WEASEL..."
O'Dell: "Down under 20 seconds remaining in the second, K-Stew working the left. Brenda wants to slip and dip and get inside. Good right from Stewart there, her best punch of the fight so far and there's the bell. Close in the second, and K-Stew gets on the board."
Tess: "We're even at 19."
ROUND THREE:
O'Dell: "More of the same as we start the third. Lots of tactical stuff going on right now, and that's not a surprise with these two. You're looking at veteran fighters who are absolutely known as tacticians. Good right from Brenda and Stewart responds with a nice combination..."
McCarthy: "K-Stew can box RINGS around this WEASEL. Just watch!"
O'Dell: "So far, that's not been the case. Song's given as good as she's gotten to this point. It's been a close fight, and that's not a surprise. It was a very close fight the first time the two met. Song dipping that shoulder, slipping to middle distances, getting off in combination..."
Tess: "She's really tough to find."
O'Dell: "Definitely is, though Kristen is doing a better job of that now than she was in the first. It's been nip-and-tuck all the way in this stanza as we roll into the final seconds. Sharp exchange there, with both fighters landing a good right hand and there's the bell. Close. Brenda."
Cassie: "And, Song pulls back into the lead, 29-28."
ROUND FOUR:
O'Dell: "Fourth begins the way the third ended, with the ladies getting their box on, working for position. It's been tactical round after tactical round so far. Stewart doubling up that jab, dropping a right hand in behind it. stops Song and follows with a nice combination..."
McCarthy: "K-Stew getting in rhythm now."
O'Dell: "She appears to be doing just that. Stewart finding with that left, even if she has to pop off two or three quick ones to do it, and, when she's able to get it on, she can keep Brenda at range and bang home right hands. Song still working to get past the defenses, but not having much success."
Cassie: "When Kristen gets it going, she can make it VERY tough on you..."
O'Dell: "And, that's exactly what she's doing to Brenda right now. Final twenty seconds ticking away in the fourth. Stewart's built herself quite the lead in this one and she's adding to it as we approach the final bell. There it is. The fourth is in the books and it's K-Stew wide."
Tess: "And, we're even again, this time at 38."
ROUND FIVE:
O'Dell: "Stewart rolling as we enter the fifth. She's got the jab working, she's putting punches together and making life very, very difficult for Brenda at the moment. Song trying to slip, trying to get to spots, but she can't do it. Kristen locked in and dropping heavy shot on her rival..."
Tess: "Brenda's got to figure a way to change things up, because she's taking a beating right now..."
O'Dell: "GOOD right from Kristen and that got Song's attention. Brenda ROCKED WITH ANOTHER RIGHT HAND! Song's knees do a shimmy and Stewart all in here. Kristen letting the hands go and DOWN GOES BRENDA! A short right hook from K-Stew and Song is DOWN!"
Cassie: "That hook was NASTY..."
O'Dell: "Kristen to a neutral corner. Count at three. Four. Five. Brenda sitting up at six. Seven. To her feet at eight. She'll take the mandatory and ON COMES KRISTEN. Stewart letting the hands go, driving her rival into the ropes, ROCKING her with a right hand. Ref looking in closely. BIG right from Kristen and it's OVER! The ref steps in and it's OVER! And your winner by TKO5 is 'The Five-Tool Player', Kristen Stewart!"
McCarthy: "Nothing lucky about THAT!"
AFTER:
O'Dell: "Let's go up to the ring and Cassie Scerbo!"
Cassie: "I have our winner, Kristen Stewart, and, K-Stew, definitely not easy in there..."
Kristen (nodding): "Never is against Brenda. She's very good, very smart, hard to deal with. When you get your chances, you have to take advantage, and I was able to do that tonight."
Cassie: "What's next for you?"
Kristen (smiling): "All depends. I'm up for just about anything, so, whatever you guys have for me, let's do it!"
