Our reporter and his blonde companion sit watching baseball at Bazz with Cassandra Lynn Scerbo, Poindexter Del Crunchy, and the Man In The Hat.
Reporter: "So, it looks like this pay-per-view might look at lot like last pay-per-view for Front Street, guys. A title shot and a Kennedy McMann fight..."
Cassie: "Let's hope the results are a LOT different..."
Pointy: "Took the words right out of my mouth, girl..."
Man In The Hat: "And, again, TWO big fights. Obviously, ALL title fights are big and this is almost certainly our last chance to win a title in 2021 and make this a successful year..."
Reporter: "And keep alive your streak of winning at least one title every year since 2012."
Man In The Hat: "But, Kennedy's fight is a big one, too. We're getting to the point where it's time for her to take a step. Beating a girl like Gigi. who's had success, would get her closer to doin' that..."
Tess: "You've sworn off fighting welters, but, Hadid is a welter..."
Man In The Hat: "Much like Michelle Ryan, she is NOT. Hadid has FOUGHT welter, but she walks around between 125 and 128. She's a lightweight who sometimes FIGHTS at welter. There's a difference as far as we're concerned."
Cassie: "Like the difference between winning and WINNING..."
Man In The Hat (smiling): "Absolutely..."
Reporter: "Wait...what..."
Pointy: "Something Wizardo and the girl were discussing earlier..."
Tess (smiling): "I can't WAIT to hear this..."
Man In The Hat: "We were talkin' about the Phoenix Suns and how many very good teams the franchise has had. And, yet, NO championships. And, this is only the third time the franchise has managed to get as far as The Finals...because WINNING is hard in EVERY sport. In some, winning is harder than in others. But, in ALL of them, WINNING is very hard."
Reporter: "I still don't get it..."
Man In The Hat: "OK. Let's take the NFL. Winning isn't super hard. It's a short season and, because of the salary cap and free agency and relatively short player careers, talent levels are fairly even. Get a few breaks and you can be a 10-6 team with 7-9 talent and, hey, you're a winner. You're probably in the playoffs. Now. If you ARE a team with 7-9 talent, you aren't gonna be IN the playoffs LONG, but, you're there and you had a good season..."
Cassie: "In baseball, winning is HARDER..."
Man In The Hat: "Absolutely. Careers are longer and there's no salary cap. You can keep teams together much more easily. And, of course, the season is MUCH longer. A few breaks might make a 70-92 team a 75-87 team or a 75-87 team an 80-82 team...but, it won't get those teams into the post-season or keep them in the race. It won't make them winners. So, it's HARDER to get to that step, the step where you're in the race and fighting for the playoffs...in other words, a winner. But. In ALL sports, it's hard to be a WINNER...the last team standing at the end."
Reporter: "OK, I'm starting to get it now..."
Man In The Hat: "The Suns had a team in the 90s that won 62 games. That team, as a whole, was every bit as good as the team it lost to in The Finals, Jordan's Bulls...in fact, it finished three games better in the regular season. But, the Bulls were the Bulls. They came up big when they needed to come up big. Jordan was Jordan. And, despite the Suns winning a triple OT game, Chicago grabbed the other close ones, including the final game, Game Six, by one point, and raised the trophy. And, that series came right after the Bulls/Knicks series highlighted by 'The Charles Smith Game', when the Knicks missed 15 free throws and Smith had four layups, any one of which would have won the game, blocked in the final seconds..."
Pointy: "And the Knicks still say he was fouled four times..."
Man In The Hat: "The Knicks left the door open for the Bulls to be the Bulls and Jordan to be Jordan. And, when all was said and done, the Bulls were champions. The Bulls were WINNERS. And, it's HARD to be WINNERS. Ask the Knicks. All those good teams they had with Ewing...and they still haven't been WINNERS since the 70s. Neither have the Bucks. And, the Suns have NEVER been WINNERS. All three have been winners, though, and that's the point I'm making."
Reporter: "And, Front Street has one more shot to be WINNERS in 2021..."
Man In The Hat (smiling): "You're learnin', son. You're learnin'. Now. Let's watch some ball, shall we?"
