Our reporter sits in The Great Room at The Manor watching baseball and basketball and sipping cold beverages with Poindexter Del Crunchy and the Man In The Hat.
Reporter: "So, Wiz, were you surprised to get the offer from Kendall for a lightweight title shot for Gems?"
Man In The Hat: "To be honest, a little. We'd discussed it a few months back, but, we'd just had the belts..."
Pointy (rolling his eyes): "And, Wizardo was 'walking the walk'."
Man In The Hat (smiling): "Indeed, I was. And, obviously, you've got a PILE of contenders at lightweight, some great rivals of Kendall's. So, no, I did not expect her to come back to us, but, obviously, we're excited and, frankly, honored to get the call."
Reporter: "Gems will be the underdog..."
Man In The Hat (nodding): "Just about any lightweight in the world is going to be the underdog against Kendall Jenner. But, Gems can win this thing. And become the first Front Streeter ever to win a second title."
Reporter: "AND stretch your streak of having won a title to ten years in a row."
Pointy (nodding): "And, this is, no doubt, the last chance to do that..."
Reporter: "Really? It's not even July..."
Pointy: "But, we just had a shot at the bantamweight belts. And, we're getting this one at light. We don't compete at welter. We aren't going after the Ice Hotel. And, we've never gone after the JMD or JMDD belts."
Reporter: "I note you left out flyweight. Wiz, I assume you saw the articles about Ariel being passed over for Mendes...including the one claiming she was 'robbed'..."
Man In The Hat: "OK. This is going to be my first and LAST comment about the Holt/Mendes fight..."
Reporter: "Really?"
Man In The Hat: "Really. I will discuss it right now and never again, because, while I realize a lot of the fans are going to enjoy this fight and a lot of writers and talking heads are going to chew over whether Mendes should have gotten this shot coming off a loss, this fight and its result have exactly ZERO effect on Front Street..."
Reporter: "Wait..."
Man In The Hat (raising his hand): "Let me finish. Olivia Holt has now had SEVEN opportunities to offer a title opportunity to Front Street. She has not availed herself of ANY of them. I have ZERO reason to believe she'll avail herself of an eighth, but, we'll never know, because, she's not going to get the opportunity to duck us again. We will not seek and we shall not accept any opportunity to fight Olivia Holt for the flyweight titles. Ms. Holt has also crossed a Rubicon here known as 'if you didn't want us WITH the belts, don't come to us WITHOUT them'. Of course, that likely doesn't matter, considering that, since she was blasted out in five by Jane Levy, Ms. Holt has had thirty one opportunities to fight Front Street and has availed herself of exactly NONE of them. But, just in case, we will not seek and we shall not accept any fight against Olivia Holt going forward. Her current record against Front Street is 0-1. It will be 0-1 when she retires..."
Reporter: "OK, but..."
Man In The Hat: "Now, as you know, we DO both like and respect Ms. Mendes. However, another Rubicon has also been crossed here. Front Street does not and will not 'take a number'. And, I know none of that is Camila's fault, but, here we are. Accordingly, should she defeat Ms. Holt, we will not seek and we shall not accept any opportunity to fight Ms. Mendes for the title. Not in her first defense, not in her second defense, not in her eighth defense or her twentieth defense or whatever defense an arcane rule doesn't reserve for a stablemate. Therefore, the results of the Holt/Mendes fight will have exactly ZERO effect on Front Street and I will not waste another moment talking about it."
Reporter: "OK. So...what's going to happen with Ariel and the rest of your flyweights?"
Man In The Hat: "Billie and Meg are going to keep working and learning and developing just as they have been. Kris will stay busy, as she always does. We will point Ariel in another direction. And, we'll wait. Sooner or later, Odds and Ends won't have the belts anymore. At that point, we'll again focus on getting into the flyweight title picture. Now. Let's watch some ball, shall we?"
