The June PPV featured title fights in all four divisions. Only one title changed. Hannah Ferguson took the title from Kate Upton (I just hated that) in a bizarre “sauna fight” She won by a unanimous decision after eleven rounds locked in a hot sauna. Kendall Jenner retained her title as did Naomi Scott and Olivia Holt
The welters had only three fights on the card outside of the title fight. Tahnee Atkinson and Hilary Rhoda won their bouts. Atkinson is 5-5 against Ferguson while Rhoda is 0-2 against Ferguson both her bouts were in 2017. Of course, a rematch with Upton can’t be ruled out at present, but right now a choice for a first defense seems wide open. Actually. the fight that stirred the welter pot was Samantha Hoopes’ big upset of Brooklyn Decker in a JMDD fight. I don’t think that win puts Hoopes in the top ten welter class, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that she could get a title match
In the lightweights, Taylor Swift and Huntington-Whiteley had big wins but they both have fought Kendall in the last year. If fact Kendall has beaten most of the top ten in the last twelve months. I think there are three possibilities for a title match. Alexis Ren has beaten Kendall two out of three. Taylor Hill has beaten her in their only fight and Courtney Tailor who has yet to fight Jenner, but has beaten Kate Upton. Of course, Kendall can pick anyone she wants, but she seldom drops down out to the top tier for a match.
The bantam picture is similar to that of the lightweights. Naomi Scott has beaten most of the top ten in the last year. I think possibilities are Demi Rose who beat Scott last year. Selena Gomez, who Scott hasn’t fought in two over two years and Nina Dobrev would be good choices. The bantams are quite deep so Scott could well drop down out of the top twenty without too much criticism
The flyweights are also very deep. Cheryl Cole made a bold bid for a title match in beating Lily Collins. Ariel Winter raised some eyebrows with her win over Lowndes that could get her the fight. My favorite at present would be Megan Fox. She has a fight with Kate Beckinsale in the middle of July which I think she will win, then the fight with Holt which would be her 100th fight. A Fox win then, would get her into the Hall of Fame and the Unified Flyweight Title. I don’t believe we have ever had a Hall Of Fame entry bout that was also a title bout. A loss would delay her entry into the Hall since you can’t get in on a loss.
We had a very rare occurrence in the PPV. We had two unanimous decisions. While that was very common in the early days of the FCBA, I would have to guess that this is first time in at least six years where we had two decisions on the same card much less the same year.
