3. Kate Beckinsale vs Alicia Silverstone

“Yes, I’m taking a break from kicking McCarthy’s butt. Figured she could use some time off to lick her wounds, you know?” Kate flashes a smile at the assembled reporters in the room, before continuing. “Alicia, on the other hand, I’ve been wanting to fight for a spell. We both come from the same era of show business, so it’ll be interesting to see our different paths cross in the ring.”
Alicia Silverstone of course has seen and done it all, and judging from the hoots and cheers from some members of the audience as she strides into the room with a wave, they too have been fans of the model and actress, and have been eagerly awaiting her return to ring since 1999.
“Unfortunately, I’ve had other priorities in life, like establishing my modeling career back then,” Alicia says after she’s seated at the press table. “Kate and I have had very different trajectories in our careers, so I was happy to get the call and invite to return to the ring. I’ve been working hard on getting back in fighting shape, so Beckinsale had better be ready!”
Respectful touch of the gloves later on when both women are in the ring before returning to respective ring-posts. Alicia’s dressed in a white sports bra and long grey tights, her dirty blonde hair tied in a ponytail. Kate’s going for a sunshine yellow workout blouse and short black gym shorts, waving red gloves to let the ref know she’s ready as well. Referee calls for the bell and HERE WE GO with ten rounds of Bantamweight action!
ROUND 1:
Kate dominates the early action, using Alicia’s ring-rust to run away with points in this opening round. Over and over again Alicia’s moving sluggishly, taking the hits like a newbie, and perhaps it’s little surprise given how driven Beckinsale is at this point in her career, by comparison. Kate’s looking like a million dollars as she circles the blonde and slaps leather into her aged frame over and over, and Alicia’s barely fighting back, still getting back into the groove of a proper ring rhythm as she throws up her arms each time a little too late before Kate scores another fast one on her nose or lips. Third minute and finally Alicia scrounges up the courage to smack a hard hook into Kate’s arms, landing the first shot that does some damage to close the round.
ROUND 2:
Alicia picks up the pace, exchanging jabs with Beckinsale in the very first minute as the two Cougars demonstrate equal aggression. Kate’s getting surprised by the blonde’s counterattacks as both women grow even more determined to sock each other on the mouth with their gloves, continuing to lunge and swing and prod their punches forward. Alicia’s fighting and moving like a different woman compared to the first round, landing some stiff shots to Kate’s body whenever the Brit takes a swing in her direction. In this way, she’s imposing her strength and will on her opponent, actually makes Beckinsale retreat in tatters by the end of three minutes - blonde Cougar raising her mitts to her fans, but still massaging one side of her face from earlier punishment.
ROUND 3:
Things continue to go wrong for Beckinsale as she struggles to close in and resume her punishment. Alicia learns to cover up her flanks, keep her face hidden behind a closed guard, managing to block most of Kate’s long-form jabs from landing in this way. Whenever Kate gets in close, she’s met by a surging counterattack from Alicia as the two women take turns blasting stiff straight hands into each other’s sides and guards, taking turns to throw their heads back. Silverstone’s still packing power after this long time out of the ring, whips another lucky hook across the Brit’s face to close the round, which sends Kate reeling to the side a couple of steps but doing more damage to her ego rather than anything permanent.
ROUND 4:
Kate adapting well, however, and fast - you fight someone as crazy as McCarthy multiple times in a row, and you learn a thing or two. The Brit dances around Alicia’s own sudden aggression, thwarting her attempts at an early knockdown with a swerve to one side, a return hook landing on her body the other as she exposes the blonde’s inexperience. Alicia finally gets the memo in the second half - might be due to her aching body as she hugs her midsection with one arm across, tentative steps taken backwards to try and catch her breath. But it’s Kate’s show this time, with the Head Vixen stepping forward and jabbing at the wounded girl’s face and frame in a confident dance. Alicia struggles to get away for the rest of the round, allowing Kate to come out on top.
ROUND 5:
Alicia fading, and fading fast. All that adrenaline was coursing through her veins earlier, but now, having to face the cold, hard truth that this boxing thing might be long past her prime, she wilts in the face of Kate’s flurries fired at her up and down, left and right as Beckinsale pushes in without mercy, knocks the blonde’s head backwards with short, snappy jabs to her nose. Alicia grunting as she gets manhandled backwards into the ropes, arms wavering over her face as she struggles to defend both her head and body. End result gives Beckinsale free reign to take her shots unabated, knock a nasty uppercut into the Cougar’s chin AND THAT’S IT - Alicia reeling back, her eyes shut, finally LOSES her balance as her back bounces off the ropes and then COLLAPSES down to her side!! Referee hovers over the aging actress, Alicia still making a worthy effort to push herself off her back, one foot at a time is the motto as she manages to recover by the count of 9! Two minutes left on the clock, however, as Kate ROARS in to finish her the job! Alicia’s valiant recovery all for naught as she resumes taking nasty hits, hooks knocking her head silly left and right, with the blonde barely putting up a resistance at this stage. Kate huffing, taking swings at Silverstone as though she’s a punching bag, just wailing on her head and body - any open spots in her defences, one eye on the referee, who’s hovering nearby and ready to jump in. Alicia groans as she takes another clean shot on the chin, her head swimming dangerously back and over the ropes, as though she’s about to go down one more time… FINALLY the ref’s seen enough - he JUMPS in to cover Alicia up and wave Kate off! It’s OVER!

AFTER:
Kate’s done it! A milestone’s reached tonight, by all our calculations, as she puts Alicia away in five rounds and by doing so, attains her 100th fight with a soaring win! Kate smiling wide as she raises both hands to the cheering crowds - she’s been through plenty of hell in her illustrious career, now facing the fight of her life forward as she battles McCarthy and other naysayers in order to find her place in the boxing Hall-of-Fame.
She just has to be a little more patient, as Tess Valmore would sternly caution - those recent losses to nemesis McCarthy have thrown multiple spanners into her plans - Kate might have reached 100 fights, but she’s still very much below the threshold to qualify for a place amongst the other titans of industry.
“I’m on my way. And stepping over McCarthy’s fallen body to get there is all the more a sweet prospect!” Kate laughs to reporters by ring-side later, still filled with leftover adrenaline as she shakes her brown hair loose.
