Nothin’ fancy, just some roster updates/clarifications…plus, some sad changes and one new signing.
1. Name Change
From this point on, our stable will officially be known as simply “Bonzo’s Gym” – that’s a lot catchier than the old “Floydian Boxing Group”.
2. Roster Changes
We’ve never been a particularly multi-member stable, but even as it is, it’s been difficult to get all our of members steady action, especially after the league’s structural changes. That means the contracts with the following fighters have been terminated:
a) Nadia Bjorlin
After Rachel Nichols retired a few days ago, it’s sad for us to announce the retirement of another long-term member of a major stable, and a former champion. Tough as it is, there just doesn’t seem to be much of a future for Nadia in the division, so she’s made the extremely difficult decision to retire at the end of 2016. Nadia will move into our executive team, becoming an assistant trainer in our gym. Nadia’s still a highly competitive woman – she’s no free agent at this point, of course, but she has a clause in her contract that will allow her to become part of another stable, should there be expressive interest, and even fight the occasional fight if she’s offered or challenged it. That much she deserves.
b) Ali Larter
We’ve also decided not to renew the contract for Ali Larter, still a supremely beautiful and athletic fighter at 40. She'll be a free agent now, and we wish her all the best.
c) Megan Gale
Having Megan Gale on our roster has always been an experiment. We couldn’t get opponents for her early on and at one point no longer tried. Since she’s still listed as our stable member, it should be clarified that she’s now no longer a part of our stable.
d) The fighters marked as “inactive” on our profile page – Cori Nadine, Victoria Silvstedt, and last but certainly not least, our very first title champion, Aussie Nikki Visser – are no longer any official part of the stable, either.
Evangeline Lilly won a title this year, and briefly thought about retiring on a high note, but that was quickly ruled out after losing her first defense against the formidable Claire Danes. Milena Govich is on a shocking losing streak, but internal competitions have seen her beat out rival Nadia Bjorlin as a future fighter in our stable, so her contract is renewed, too.
And, of course, we're going to try to aggressively pursue the 100-fight mark for Amanda Righetti, possibly next year, making her hall-of-fame eligible. She's at 91 fights and a 73,6 % winning percentage (78,8 % at welter) right now.
3. Signing Announcement
We’ve decided to sign a prospective contract with a new fighter, our first addition since 2010. At this point, I’m just not sure whether I’ll be able to give her the necessary fights, so if there’s somebody else more enthusiastic about her being part of his stable, please go ahead – we’d potentially be willing to let her go in that case. So, without further delay, we announce the signing of
Stats: born 7 October 1997, Age: 19, Height: ca. 5’6’’
Division: Bantamweight, with a potential of moving to LW at one point
Background: “The Thundermans”, on Nickelodeon
There’s some uncertainty regarding her height on the internet – she’s sometimes claimed as even being around 5’8’’ tall. So for now, she’s going to get introduced as a strong, 5’6’’-ish bantamweight, though that may change accordingly in the future. I know – our stable signing a Nickelodeon girl might be what you call an “unexpected” move, but you may also agree that Kira’s got a pretty raw, athletic physicality that doesn’t really make her seem out of place around here at all. But we shall see. Note: We’re open to any debut challenges immediately, so please go ahead with your ideas!
4. Current Lineup
BANTAM: Evangeline Lilly, Kira Kosarin (new)
WELTER: Amanda Righetti, Katrina Law, Milena Govich
All the best, 19 December 2016,
Bonzo
