Charlize Theron vs Kate Upton (Golden Goddess Bout)

BEFORE: If there was ever a bout that needed absolutely no hype, this is it. You've got the undisputed GOAT, Charlize Theron. And, while everyone recognizes there will never be another Theron, everyone also knows that, at some point, there will be a girl who dominates the FCBA landscape like Theron once did. And, Kate Upton may well BE that girl. But, if Upton's going to take up the mantle, there's going to be a struggle, because Charlize isn't ready to give it up yet. "Yeah," says CT with a nod, "She might be the NEXT one. But. I can still beat her, and that's what I'm going to do."

"She is the greatest of all time," says Kate. "No question of that. But. I'm the greatest right NOW. And, I'm going to prove that, once again."

ROUND ONE: Theron sets up at range and gets her box on. Upton, who's plenty good at gunnery range and definitely has the advantage in power, is just fine with that. And, it quickly becomes clear she shouldn't be. Theron gets into a fearful rhythm, working the long left hand to control and preempt the younger woman and set up right hand follows. Quickly, the GOAT is building combinations, throwing Upton to the defensive, strafing her again and again with hard flurries. By the latter stages of the round, Upton's actually getting backed up by the sheer volume of hard, accurate fire coming from Theron. Of course, there's no doubt the Theron of today isn't the fighter she was at her peak. But, for one round, anyway, she looks as good as she ever has. At the bell, she's given Kate The Great a thorough licking, grabbing the round wide to lead 10-9.

ROUND TWO: Upton still looking a bit shell shocked early, and Theron gets right back into the easy rhythm, out boxing the bigger, younger, woman; punishing her with both hands. Eventually, though, Kate manages to fight her way inside. There, she bodies up to Theron, using her size and bulk to force the lighter blonde to the ropes. Kate pins Charlize with her left forearm across her chest as she drives powerful right hands to the body of the older blond. Upton's giving as good as she gets, with Theron answering the busty blondes body attack with cuffing lefts and rights to the head. As the stanza goes on, however, it's Kate getting the best of the GOAT. Once Kate's softened Charlize's body up and stolen her wind, the big brawler's power shots force Theron onto the defensive. Charlize isn't badly hurt, but Upton's done plenty of damage to her confidence and her body attack has slowed the leggy actress, enough for her to overtake CT's early lead. Kate evens things up late, then begins to pull away. At the final bell, it's close, but it's Upton. We're all even at 19 after two.



ROUND THREE: More long range warfare as Theron avoids close contact, giving us good, two-way stuff right from the beginning. Theron upping her work rate, tossing a ton of volume at Upton who responds in kind. Kate not as busy as the GOAT, but she's landing a greater percentage and her punches pack more power. Add it all up and we're seeing a good, competitive round that's nip and tuck the entire way, with neither blonde able to create any separation. Final twenty seconds, however, is where Charlize steals the points as the wily veteran puts together three brilliant combinations to preempt Upton, toss her to the defensive, and create just enough offense to move things off dead center. At the bell, it's very close, but Theron claims the round and goes back on top 29-28.



ROUND FOUR: Aaaannnd Kate is done with this rangy boxing stuff; determined to bring her power to bear. Upton walking down Theron, catching her with her more aggressive tactics. Charlize gets backed up as Upton takes full advantage of catching the older blonde on the back foot. Kate sitting down on her punches, landing hard body shots, suppressing Theron's offense, taking firm control of the proceedings as the time winds down. Charlize, desperate to find a way to keep the younger woman off, unable to escape Kate's clutches. Upton's crowding, bullying, and scoring with hard body shot after hard body shot. Down the stretch, things grim for CT who's unhurt, but taking a body beating that leaves her plenty scuffed and panting at the bell. It's a clear round for Upton wide to put them even again at 38.



ROUND FIVE: Kate right back at it. Upton fast-walking out of her corner to cut off Theron and use her superior power and weight to excellent advantage! Charlize's corner screaming at their fighter to move laterally, get off square, but Upton's smothering her, not giving her space to breathe, let alone move. BOOM! DOWN GOES KATE! Well, that's ONE way to keep her off! A BLISTERING right hand counter drops Kate The Great on her rump, her massive juggs bouncing wildly! Theron quickly to a neutral corner where she leans on the turnbuckles, taking big gulping breaths watching Upton sit on the mat staring glassy-eyed up at the referee as he counts. Upton shakes it off to rise to her feet at seven and takes the mandatory. ON COMES CT! Theron all OVER Upton, POUNDING her to head and body, looking to either finish or force the referee to stop the thing. Last thirty-plus seconds see Kate butt-stuffed in the ropes taking, but then Kate clinches, hanging on, forcing Theron to carry her weight, arms bear-hugging the slender blonde, smothering her punches. Kate's embrace keeps the referee at bay and at the bell, she's survived, but Theron's won it wide to go back into the lead 48-46.



ROUND SIX: Theron continues to press the advantage. Charlize stalking Kate now, committing fully, throwing everything she has looking for the finisher. BOOM! DOWN GOES CHARLIZE! About a minute in, Upton gets her feet set and - as Theron leans into a right - Kate lets her have it with a BRUTAL right hand of her own! Theron sent sprawling onto her back! This time it's Upton heading for a neutral corner where she smirks at the sight of Theron blinking and gazing up at the referee counting over her. And, for a few seconds, it looks like it's going to end this way but, Theron sits up at seven and uses the ropes to pull herself up just in time to beat the count! ON COMES KATE THE GREAT! Upton REEFING body punches into the midsection of a listing SS GOAT, then coming up to rock the older woman back on her heels. Upton throwing everything she has at Theron in an attempt to find her 'off' switch. Charlize rope-bound for most of two minutes, taking a terrific body beating, but like Kate in the fifth, she manages to hang on by clinching and, at the bell it's 10-8 Upton. We're even again at 56.



ROUND SEVEN: After three minutes of absolute hell for Theron, Upton's got the GOAT wobbly-butt and takes full advantage, bringing all her heavy guns to bear; simply firing salvo after salvo at the older blonde. Charlize looks ready to go a minute in and the referee's looking closely, but that concrete chin doesn't fail Theron and she's able to withstand Upton's offensive. But Charlize can't begin to firm up her base or do more on offense than counter-punch here and there. Charlize gets pounded around the ring, trapped on the ropes where Kate is able to lean her weight on her, smashing her body then switching to her head whenever her hands drift low. In the final thirty seconds, Theron's trapped a corner in a high guard taking a shellacking and Upton's wondering what she has to do to get a stoppage. The question goes unanswered in the seventh which ends with still standing, albeit wobbly, the referee is still at bay. It's a shutout for Kate, though, who goes ahead 66-65.



ROUND EIGHT: Upton arm-weary after two rounds of virtual non-stop punching. She's been swinging away for about five minutes and it's taken its toll. The GOAT, still wobbly, is unable to take advantage of Upton's reduced work rate and Kate The Great still gets the best of the opening minute. That begins to change, mid-round when Theron's legs start to come back and the veteran begins getting some offense going. Charlize beating the tiring Upton to the punch and by the final minute, Theron looks like the fighter she was in the first round; setting up beautiful combinations and landing hard, accurate flurry after hard, accurate flurry, Charlize putting the younger woman onto the defensive in the final seconds, forcing her to back and cover on the ropes. At the bell, Theron's made up the early stagger and evened the fight at 75.

ROUND NINE: All to play for as we start the penultimate scheduled round. Theron showing why she IS who she is. From the very first seconds, she's after Kate, taking advantage of the younger blonde's fatigue. Kate's clearly slowed while the older woman looks extremely sharp, drawing on carefully hoarded reserves of energy to take the fight to her rival. Upton's put on the defensive from the beginning, reduced to countering here and there as Theron controls the proceedings; showing ring generalship that surpasses anyone who's ever fought in the FCBA. It's a clinic put on by the best clinician who's ever stepped inside these ropes, but, more impressive is just WHO the victim of said clinic is. That's no ORDINARY fighter in there, that's KATE THE GREAT. But she's been made to LOOK ordinary for three solid minutes, and when the bell rings, Theron leads 86-85 with three minutes to go.

ROUND TEN: Observers could be forgiven for figuring on Theron coming out looking to manage the clock here, win the round, and take this thing on points. But, that little calculation goes out the window immediately, because Charlize continues to assault the tired younger blonde. She's even more aggressive now, stepping to, banging away, looking to finish in sty...DOWN GOES THERON! A calculated risk but her calculation goes HORRIBLY WRONG! Upton drops the GOAT to her right side with a short right! This place is going NUTS! Upton slumping exhausted in a neutral corner watches and waits. As Charlize gets to her feet, Kate just shakes her head in disbelief as the older blonde takes the mandatory. Then, the referee waives on Kate. Upton draws on what little energy she has left and goes after Theron, swinging way, looking to send an unmistakable message to the woman she plans to replace. Kate with her open palm in Theron's face, shoe-shines those GOAT breasts with her right fist, forehand-backhand-forehand. The referee stepping in, breaking them apart, giving Kate a finger wagging tut-tut. Theron cupping her bosom, adjusting her top, then drives her right fist deep into Kate's left breast! Upton backs off, nodding at Charlize. Kate wanting to make absolutely sure this time, sends a sweeping left hook to Theron's right breast, followed immediately by another right hook...DOWN GOES THERON! A SECOND BOOMING right from Upton sends Charlize sprawling on her back. Again, Kate to a neutral corner to watch and wait. But, this time, the count passes Theron by and it's OVER! And your winner by KO10 is Kate Upton!


AFTER:As they flank the referee holding Kate's arm overhead, Kate reaches around to cup Charlize behind the head and pull her into a hug. She whispers something in Charlize's ear and when Theron tries to draw back, Kate pulls Charlize's flushed face down into her bosom and traps it there with both arms wrapped around her head until the GOAT's knees begin to buckle. Only then does Kate let her go and allow Theron to stumble away. "Don't ever disrespect my royal rack," Kate yells at Theron's retreating back.
