W.W. here with another stable announcement.
I’ll be honest about this one: she’s probably a bit more obscure than most of you would like. But, if you’ve understood anything about me, it’s that I’ve taken a fair share of risks. My ultimate goal is, after all, to break up the norm and breathe life into the FCBA. And while the SIA isn’t the top name just yet, I have absolute faith that some day it will be.
Needless to say, I’m not making this pick out of complete ignorance. I’ve seen her in action, and I know she has the potential to succeed within the FCBA.
This interview I’ve conducted should get you well acquainted with her: I recommend giving it a read if you wish to be informed. If you don’t…well, you’ll see her soon enough.
Please welcome, to the Sisters-in-Arms, also competing at Bantamweight along with Nigri and Bayley: Joo Minhee, of the KPOP group STELLAR!
Interviewer: So, give us just a little bio about yourself…
Minhee: Ah, of course! My name is Joo Minhee—on stage, it’s just Minhee. I’m part of the music group named STELLAR, along with three other girls whom I love like sisters.
Interviewer: So being a part of the Sisters-in-Arms isn’t too unusual for you?
Minhee: (laughs) No, not really. They’re currently at three girls—and when I join, four, so it’s perfect!
Interviewer: How about some history on STELLAR?
Minhee: Well, we formed in around 2010. We went with the typical image in KPOP: it’s very cutesy and girly, most of the time. We weren’t really striking ground, so we ended up deviating from the norm and going for a more…”sexy”, I guess, sort of style. That’s appreciated almost everywhere else; especially in America, it seems.
Interviewer: But not in South Korea?
Minhee: It really doesn’t seem like it; honestly, we dealt with a lot of financial issues as a group. It wasn’t until we kicked into that “sexy” style that we got a LOT of attention, both good and bad. So, that got us traction in our homeland, and it really saved us from splitting up! Even still, though, a lot of our support comes from foreign fans, who we absolutely love to death; me especially!
Interviewer: So, that’s your background. Now, how about your boxing experience?
Minhee: In South Korea, there’s been something similar to the FCBA on a much smaller scale, where KPOP artists fight. I was one of them; naturally, I had to take up a lot of training and practice, but it doesn’t cut too much into performance time and it keeps me fit, so it works out pretty well. I also think the dances we do are exercise enough, so that helped! (laughs)
Interviewer: And this is how you were found by W.W?
Minhee: Correct! He’s seen a few of my fights before, apparently, and took an interest in me because I was on a pretty big win streak. It was after I knocked out…Sojin, of Girls Day, I think, that he asked me if I’d like to participate in the FCBA. I said yes, and, well, here I am!
Interviewer: It’s said that your style in the ring, while you’re very cute and reserved—like you are right now—
Minhee: Thank you!
Interviewer: —in the ring, you’re like your stage persona: sexy, bold, confident.
Minhee: I think that is kind of true, in a sense. When I get in the ring, it’s like I get into some sort of trance—I’m just very concentrated and feel like I’m in control in a fight. Quite a few other girls underestimated me, because we were a small group and, like you said, have that cutesy attitude…and then I’d get a KO victory on them in under three rounds! (laughs) So, yeah, that is fairly true.
Interviewer: How acquainted are you with everything so far? Anyone you’d really like to fight?
Minhee: Ah, I’m not entirely sure yet…I’d love to take on some of the tougher competition at some point; Jessica took on Demi Lovato of Lookout and almost won, so maybe I could take on the other Bantamweight girl in Lookout Boxing…Emily VanCamp, I believe? I’ve heard there’s at least one other South Korean musician in...Aegis International? Yeah, there is! Dara of 2NE1...or, off-stage, Sandara Park. In the same group, there's also Park Min-Young, who does a lot of acting; I love her shows a lot, so I think it'd be fun to fight her! I'm sure my debut will be happening soon; either way, I'm training and I'm ready to handle all the incredibly strong girls within this league, no matter what!
Interviewer: Well, excellent! Thank you for your time. Final thoughts, or anything you'd like to say?
Minhee: For all fans of STELLAR out there, thank you for supporting us! When it comes to boxing, I hope you're rooting for me; my strength comes from you guys, and I hope we can draw even more fans of STELLAR along the way from boxing! And for everyone else in the FCBA: you might want to watch out, because I'll try my best to take you down! (Laughs)
So, I hope you all take a liking to her. I'll be updating the SIA challenge thread to reflect some of her requests. Even if this hasn't warmed you up fully, I guarantee that you will LOVE this woman. But naturally, actions speak louder than words.
Until next time.
