Ana de Armas versus Melanie Iglesias
Ana de Armas
VS
Melanie Iglesias
Pre-fight:
Welcome to another ABC special abroad. This time we are set in Havana, Cuba, less than an hour from Ana de Armas’ home town of Santa Cruz del Norte, where the crowds have gathered to cheer on the local girl. Ana signed with Alpha Boxing Club early in the year and has been training hard with the stable to prepare herself for what the punters predict could be quite a successful career ahead. Ana only has the one fight to date, winning her debut over Lorenza Izzo back in April. Tonight Ana takes on the only slightly more experienced Melanie Iglesias.
Despite signing with Mirage Boxing back in March of 2014, Iglesias has only had two bouts in the FCBA. Her debut was an unsuccessful JMD brawl against Ana’s now stable-mate, Briana Evigan, in January of 2016. Her second was also a loss, a year later, against Kyra Santoro. Tonight she is desperate for a maiden win, but faces tough competition in the fresh-faced Ana de Armas on her home soil.
“I felt so good in that first fight against Lorenza,” Ana beams, “that I couldn’t wait to get back in the ring. I’ve been working hard and I’m ready for this league. I know I am. I really want to prove it.”
Melanie wasn’t so convinced. “She’s had one bout, against a nobody. I’ve fought two tough girls and learned some valuable lessons. I know I can take her. She hasn’t got a clue what fighting in this league is about.”
Round 1:
Both girls jump in early, eager to get themselves off to a great start, pumped full of excitement and confident they can take the equally inexperienced babe in the opposite corner. Ana goes high for head, but Melanie ducks and, maybe being a little accustomed via her JMD debut, slams left rights across bouncing jugs, sending Ana’s full bikini cups swaying as the crowd hollers their approval at the sight. Ana cries out and instinctively tries to back off, but Mel pushes and drives leather for toned midriff, the first couple shots of which smack against bare skin, though Ana able to block and cover the latter attempts.
Ana recovers well, shuffling wide with neat footwork, then quickly back in, jabbing at pretty face and getting some pained grunts from Melanie. Ana happy to work the jab and keep Mel guessing as her feet shuffle her back and forth rapidly, Mel’s big shot attempts spraying air and hurting nothing but her energy levels.
Ana sees an opening, sneaks in, hooks for jug payback, but Mel blocks quickly, then hammers a big right into Ana’s left cheek. De Armas is staggered and Mel cheekily smacks jugs about a bit more before closing the round out with a couple of jabs to grimacing face.
Round 2:
Melanie looks pleased with her first round as she wades in with jabs, headhunting her way inside before ripping a heavy left hook for midriff. But, Ana’s nimble footwork slips her just out of trouble, and the reply comes swiftly, her left glove smacking through Mel’s jawline, rocking her to the side. Ana jumps in and jumps Mel’s jugs, getting some yelps, before smacking a glove into her mouth.
Mel is forced to back off quickly now, the guard recovering desperately. Ana follows cautiously, landing jabs mostly on the guard until Melanie snaps a left into her chin that makes Ana respond with a heavy right hook to toned tummy. But Melanie refuses to turtle, and replies again, jabbing leather into Ana’s mouth, then again, bobbleheading her now and forcing de Armas to step back on instinct. Now Mel comes again, but this time Ana bends low and pumps underhooks into tummy, staggering her opponent until a wild left clubs across her temple. Ana shuffles off to her left and Melanie comes once more.
Melanie comes on a little too strong though, and Ana’s clever footwork seems to be keeping her in this right now, allowing her to slip aside and evade the left jab, then club sexy Iglesias bra cup, sending it bouncing madly, and follow with some more deft hooks to tummy, sending the cutie into a coughing fit and holding bruised abs as the bell goes to end the second.
Round 3:
Mel looking less confident, realising Ana has some game, but certainly more focused and determined entering the third, having a feel for Ana’s movements now, and willing to chase her opponent and throw dominant heavy hooks at sexy midriff. Ana struggling to cover through the power punches and is soon hunched over, huffing as tight tummy is bruised with Mel’s banging hooks.
Ana is trying to use those quick feet to back away, but Mel has her number here, right on her at every turn, gloves peppering ribs as the cutie moves, then right back to abs when she manages to pin Ana against the ropes. Ana’s midriff is absolutely rocked throughout the third round, and she is limping, holding mottled tummy as she staggers into her corner after the bell. Mel looks more confident again now.
Round 4:
Ana’s abs are a sore-looking mess as she winces her way back into mid-ring to start the fourth, but Mel isn’t here to deliver sympathy, and she gets stuck right back in, delivering heavy leather instead, belting sexy midriff some more and bruising ribs for added measure. Ana is trying to cover, face contorted in discomfort, but Mel just takes that as an invitation to smack those trained fists into pretty Cuban face, and Ana is reeling, bruises forming on those cute cheeks as Mel forces her towards a neutral corner.
Mel traps her prey in a corner now and alternates the beating of face and abs until Ana slowly wilts down the turnbuckle. Alyssa Milano is screaming at Ana from her corner, desperately trying to get her fighter to move, or at least turtle behind some form of guard. Mel is keeping up the pace though, and Ana is squeaking through a comprehensive beating.
The entire crowd is on their feet and the scene is electrifying. Suddenly, Ana ducks a head hunting hook, smacks a left into a surprised Melanie’s tummy, then RIPS a huge right uppercut right through sexy jawline. And Iglesias goes down!
It is absolute pandemonium here as Melanie crashes onto her back, her corner completely stunned at this shocking turn of events. Ana flops back against the turnbuckle, an arm wrapping itself limply across her bruised tummy as she huffs and puffs and looks ready to collapse, herself.
Mel is blinking her eyes as she slowly rolls to all fours with a breathless grunt. The count gets to 8 when Mel is on her feet, backing away from Ana despite the Cuban looking dishevelled in the corner. But it’s only a matter of seconds before the bells saves the pair of them and both beauties head to their respective corners for a much deserved rest.
Round 5:
Melanie is back out trying to shrug off the effects, both physical and mental, of that shock knock down from her opponent late in the fourth, and Ana is meeting her mid ring, looking exhausted and pained, but suddenly with a little more belief than she had midway through the last round.
They come together and Mel wants to stamp her authority back on this fight right away and forget about the last few minutes, winding up a haymaker for Ana’s face. But, the Cuban cutie ducks, smacks leather into bruised rib getting a yelp from Melanie, and then rises with a monstrous uppercut straight through jawline!
Melanie staggers back a step, eyes flutter, and she collapses straight onto her back! Melanie’s body bounces limply against the canvas, limbs splayed out, and it is clear that Ana has connected sweetly once more on that trembling chin. Ana leans against the ropes huffing as the referee gets to counting, and Melanie is barely stirring, eyes fluttering up at the lights.
The count gets to ten and that’s it, Iglesias is still on the mat, and we have a winner at KO5, Ana de Armas!
Post-fight:
“Two from two! I’m so pumped!” Ana is giddy, jumping up and down and waving her hands in the air to her adoring home crowd. “The hard work is paying off, and I can’t thank Alyssa enough for getting me ready for these fights. I have loved my time at ABC already and I really hope I can get back in the ring soon. It’s my favorite place to be right now.”
While Ana beamed and celebrated with fans, Melanie was feeling a little less in a party mood. “I don’t really want to talk about it. Sorry, but zero and three, isn’t at all what I envisioned. And I had my chances, too. I KNOW I can do this. I really do. But these losses are just… uggh… it’s too much. I HAVE to win my next one. I will. You just watch. Failing is not an option.”
